It's not just a British thing, but I'm not sure if it's an English language thing. Here in the States, it's terrible, and drives me up the wall. Really, how hard must it be to type the two extra letters in "you"?

It's lack of respect as much as anything else.

I can understand the use of text-speak on phones, when it's to your mates and a text costs money so you want to say as much as you can for your 12p.

On a messageboard, though, it's simple lack of respect for people of other Nations and Languages (even the English :p )

To be honest: I don't understand half what's been said here and it is my language...And yes, random use of capitals is normal for the 12-20 year olds.

In 10 years we would look stupid and dumb for typing normal...

Hey! I'll have you know that not all of "these morons" are incapable of using the English language to it's full extent. And may I suggest that it will be the select few who can that will be running the country in 15 years time!

It happens in Oz too. Not just from high school kids either, but from young uni students as well. I put it down to the declining standards in education and the ever increasing acceptance of mediocrity.

Isn't the no text speak rule part of the ToS? I know you must use English, and text speak IS NOT English, so really I guess it is.
