Have you heard of the "Floodgate Scenario"? That's why there's no tipping.
Do you all think that the Rules and Guidelines were just arrived at and thrust upon us? They're tried and tested over more years than the current Forum's been going.
They've also changed, updates etc., over the past couple of years and as the game itself has changed, it's dynamic and will continue to change, but one voice of dissent isn't enough to change our collective mind.

I've never bought into "floodgate" arguments. I hear the same thing here in the U.S. from gun advocates. "Don't let the government ban assault rifles, because then the floodgates will open and they'll take away our hunting rifles, our knives, our kitchen silverware, and then our freedom!"
Despite my current forum registration, I've been around since the beginning of the LLaMa movement, so I know full well about the history of the rules. Tipping of the sort that I'm talking about WAS allowed in the past, and it was never a problem. The original rules were about not downloading tactics, not using the full database find function, not bragging, and that sort of thing.
This total ban on tipping was not in place at the beginning, and I never saw any flood of excessive tipping or encouragement of cheating. It was all done quite reasonably, and if anyone got out of line, it was quickly cleaned up.
I don't see why the same can't be the same today, but, as I said, I don't expect anything to change, even if there were 200 forum members calling for the change.

200 forum members where have they been hiding?
I’m with iajafer on this one….. Suppose I told a newbie that to get a player’s morale to Superb all I had to do was buy him a pint. I could also add that if you buy him more than one pint a week he gets fat. So I could quite easily tell the newbie that you should only ever buy a player one pint of beer a week and always on the day before a match. So on match day he is in great form.
Well I assume the newbie would blindly follow that rule from then on without actually finding out what happens if you never buy the player a beer or if you go out with him 6 nights a week and have 10 pints. That would take half the fun of the game out of it for the newbie only because the newbie wanted instant success.
If they want to be Llama’s let ‘em find out the hard way. Otherwise they may as well go straight to the T&T and GPG forum.

Greg, you only have to look at GQ (or even some recent postings right here) to understand why there is a need for more strict enforcement.
I've just been attacked in GQ for politely requesting that a 'potential' tactical discussion be taken to the tactical board, rather than being discussed in GQ, so you can imagine what would happen if the rules were relaxed here. I have no doubt whatsoever, that the 'floodgate' scenario would indeed happen.
As I said earlier on, there's plenty of scope for discussion as things stand, so I, for one, don't really want things to change too drastically.

Well, I don't believe the floodgate scenario at all, since there was already a time when the rules were a bit more relaxed and the result was NOT chaos or any kind of serious problem. In reality, there is far more closing of threads, attacks on newbies, and hostility than there was back then. The only thing the ultra strictness has done is increase the need to close threads and to flame people. I really don't see any other appreciable difference.
I have never advocated making it easy for anyone to have instant success. I have only stated that I think it's reasonable for there to be at least some mild exchange of ideas and information, especially when FM is far more complex and involves a lot more tweaking than it used to, and there is a vastly steeper learning curve than there was in the days when LLM began.
The best way to exemplify the problem is that, based on the rules of this forum, the game manual would not even be allowed to be published, because it's filled with tipping. After all, why should anyone be informed that you can hire scouts and send them on searches? Why should anyone know that there is such a thing as player morale and that it can affect performance? That's shameless tipping. So burn the game manual, ban it from publication, and force people to learn everything about the game by accident.

Game manual what's one of those... Okay well I guess you can call me a cheat because I am using prior knowledge from CM. So I know that scouts are used for looking at new players and morale effects how players play. From watching football for the last 30 odd years I also know a bit about football formations. I also knew the game was 90 minutes long split into two halves of 45 minutes plus injury time. And shock horror I also understand the offside rule. They didn't explain that in the manual did they?
As far as I know the prior knowledge rule only applies to players. I would hardly have to give the board an ultimatium in every version of the game just to know that you can get sacked if it goes against you.

You're falling into the same trap as the guys who come in and say "what do you guys discuss anyway if you can't name players, say you're great and claim you slept with Madonna".
Manuals, tactical downloads, GPG and the like are all good and well, even the Spawn, we don't condemn people for using them, they're a great thing, the guys who spend their time trying to help others, sterling fellows....but not in here!!!
There are numerous Fora that welcome each of these types of things, discuss them there....but not in here!!!
Get all the help you want, it's a wonderful game and it's brilliant to win the Champion's Cup with a team made up of your mates....but not in here!!!
This is the LLM Forum, it's for guys who...well...you can read like we can. If people want the other styles of playing, by all means do it...but not in here!!!
That's it.
I always say, if I were a Rangers fan I wouldn't join the local Celtic Club and try to get them to accept Big Eck.
It's only manners to accept the way we play the game here. Don't you think?

Was just about to write what Ian wrote. It's not hard to come in here and be welcomed, it's not hard to come in here and enjoy a pleasant reception - just do what you're supposed to do here. If you play tennis on a putting green, you're likely to get in trouble - same principle...
Actually, the forum name probably is misleading - but the people who coined it don't want it changed. Get used to it.
