This is down to each person's personal LLM ethos, but I would say that the only appropriate way to use the search function is if you have your assistant manager filter out unrealistic targets AND you only look for players based in your own country. If you extend to where you can scout, the player search would yield far too many results and make things too easy.

Some are not even comfortable with having their assistant manager filter out unrealistic targets, but it's something that I've done after a few seasons on FM2005 because of the scouting bug. Otherwise your scouts no longer recommend players and there is almost no way to find talent.

As Greg wrote, it's a bit up to everything to put the limits, but personally, I'd go against it as it's too easy to just fall into it and use it whenever your team starts having problems.

I usually keep an eye on the "top season players" lists, especially reserve and U19 leagues of the country I'm in, then scout the one in positions I like and see from there. Is it ok according to LLMs'? These lists are realistics?

I've been wondering about something, which is quite relevent I suppose to our ethics here...

If a player is transfer-listed, this infers there is a literal list of players up for sale out there somewhere. Does this extend to non-league football? It doesn't seem beyond the realms of possibilty that even smaller, regional divisions could have such a thing. Every division has an organising body, so could a club not inform them of players that they wish to sell? Then other teams looking for players could access this list.

Does searching for transfer-listed players not constitute such a thing?

Ok, another question...

Please not that I do not do this, but I was just wondering.

Would I be allowed to check a certain team two leagues up and check out all their players that are listed for loan or transfer? In real life I can imagine a manager calling another manager and simply asking him what he has available at that moment. I'm sure this actually happens in real life..

Of course, I would still send out my scout to check him out before I actually made a bit, or I would do a trial, short loan first..

Qwijibo, there are transfer lists available on many sites, at many locations, easy to find out. At LLM we tend to send out our scouts to find them because that's what the game allows for.

This is, however, a guideline. If you're easy with looking at transfer-listed players, though, then do it.

I'd advise you not to mention it in here, though

ZaPPPa, no reason why you can't send a scout to have a look at a Club....within reason.

Do what you feel to be realistic. Its your game, you are the manager and its your job to find players for your club. Any decent manager would look around in a realistic way to see who's gonna be free. If i was managing Lancaster, i would have a glance at any conference or D2/3 players due to be released and might be interested in joining. I would need to look around in order to glance.

That's pretty much what I was asking. I don't see why you can't send a scout to another club to check out a reserve game or something.
