Oh and good work Taips, even if it went a bit pear shaped at the end.

It was always going to be a good season when we lost all five of our warm up matches and the first game of the season. Xmas 2009 see us top of Division Two, with a six point buffer ahead of Wigan.

We have the luxury of a £325K transfer budget, ten times more than we have ever had before, but old habits die hard. We have only spent £25K of it, and that was after much deliberation. It's a changing of the guard with a number of players whom have served us well getting the push and are not having their contracts extended. Some are not happy.

My 23y striker has had more injury problems, the most worrying a between season torn groin. He came out publicly and stated that this might be the end and retirement was on the cards. Good enough reason to send him to rehab, and on his return he tore his hammy and was out four another four weeks. He is worth his weight in gold when he gets on the field and the seven goals he has scored are tantamount to this.

We are out of all the cups, which means we are most likely going to make a loss this year, abet a small one. Crowd attendance is up massively and is consistently only a couple of hundred below the 8000 capacity.

The gates of Division One can been seen from our encampment, and it seems only a disaster will prevent us from knocking on the front door come July.

June 2010
We were never out of top spot from Round 15 onwards, and in the end we won Div 2 in a canter, finishing sixteen points ahead of 2nd placed Bournemouth.

Our No.1 striker is injury prone to say the least. In his first come-back game after being out for a month with a torn hamstring, which was after two months being out with a torn groin, he breaks his shoulder after three minutes on the field and is out for a further month. I've given him the nickname "Prone". Despite these setbacks, he still gets his name on the scoresheet 15 times with 11 assists.

We filled the void with a Welsh striker who cost the princely sum of 3k from Wolves. He deservely got his first international cap this season after 26 goals in 47 matches for the club.

Defensively we are also strong, and for the second year in a row we had the least amount of goals scored against us. In one game our 22y DC reject from Carlisle scored twice from corners, and then had the opportunity to complete a rare defenders hat-trick only to see the keeper save the shot from the penalty spot. My heart bled for him.

The highlight game of the year was a 6-1 thrashing of rivals Walsall despite being down to ten men after 23 minutes. Welshy got three and Prone got the others, with his third bringing up his 100th league goal.

After the paper thin resistance of Div 2, I am really hoping for a much more difficult season in 2010/11. Our squad is young & strong and the challenge will hopefully come from the PL sides that failed the test in 2009/10.

Well done Taipan!!

Good to see the 'roos making it the World Cup although they normally make it in 2006 in my games. You shall have to tell us how far they get!!
