This is one thing about LLM as defined herethat seems barmy to me. We all know about famous players from reading newspapers, websites and so on - and we don't have jobs in football. In FM, to only look at players your scout mentions supposes that although you have a job (part-time or full-time) managing a football club you take no interest in the news of your industry!
If that's the way this forum enjoys playing the game, then fine, but if anything it's more UNrealistic than realistic.
NB: This "real world knowledge" is different to using knowledge of the game engine, eg that Cosmo Loonpants has a great PA and the first thing you should do is look at Royston Vasey's reserves and sign him
Well, I do know about famous players but I do not think they would be tempted to join Hyde Utd. in the ECN.
If (or when) I finally reach the dizzy heights of the championship or Premiership, I should (in the game) also have heard about the transfers of famous players to other clubs and may well have seen news reports or even scout reports on some of them.
I also have the knowledge that I have now (real time) which may or may not agreee with how they actually appear in the game at this game-time. So my real life knowledge is still not as goood as it first appears.
Similarly I do not have a great deal of (real time) knowledge of players in the ECN or ECS, but I do have some local knowledge of lower league players around the area. Does my actual knowledge mesh with how the researchers view the players, I do not know, so I tend to trust my scouts and assistant more than my real life knowledge.
I always have to snicker, imagining following scenario:
George ******** is appointed manager of lower league team Foobar Athletic. First thing he does after sitting in his chair: "hey, I've seen this documentation yesterday about some really classy football players. Maybe I should get some more details on them".
So, George goes to his scout Avery Blind and tells him to go to Spain to watch a couple of Real Madrid matches and see if they are of any use. Afterwards do the same for Barcelona, Juventus and Milan.
A couple of weeks later, Avery comes back and reports that for example a certain Ukrainian forward from Milan would be an excellent signing!
Now that's finally a piece of helpful advise, isn't it?

Yes because we always try and sign players like that for our LL teams
I agree about scouts on that though, suggesting the blatently obvious. Although in LLM there shouldnt be many obvious signings like that
IRL Llamas would quite definitely have a lot more knowledge of players than we allow ourselves. All they need to do is to get a copy of FM06 and they have access to the stats of thousands of players. Think about it, they could try buy a player in FM06 and if they play well in the game they could hire them IRL. Obviously if they suck in the game then you could save the club thousands of pounds!!
hogie has a point. Since i played Champ Manager 4, I know alot more about players than i did before. This makes me appear to be incredibly sad to all I know, but i do not mind
For example, I did not know "Long haired buck toother Brazilian dude" had another name, after a few weeks i knew it off by heart.
This knowledge soon lost me any friends I had and made me a social reject. Thanks Champ Manager!

You joke, but a few years ago there were newspaper stories of managers buying the game to use the database. Around the time of CM3, I think. Since then I think a company has set up a database of players for clubs and agents to subscribe to. I don't know how much it costs (so I don't know if Harrogate could afford it - although "Bungling" Bill Fotherby has probaby got a few "back up" CDRs in the boot if you come round the back) or exactly how much detail is on it.
