G'day all. I just had a quick question and needed to vent some building frustration.
Is anyone else playing with a team in the Northern Ireland leagues? I think i read where someone was playing as PSNI. What are your experiences like?
I decided to take up the challenge with Chimney Corner (who? exactly!) and so far its been fun. However my accountant has leapt off a bridge and when the bank manager and his muscle come around i'm busy hiding.
There is ZERO money in this league, none, nada, zilch. I'm halfway through my third season, having made it up to the Northern Ireland First Division and my wages are under budget but i am still losing $8k pounds per month. I currently sit a lazy 160k pounds in debt yet my board is still pleased. Most i can get in a transfer for a player is 1,000 pounds. I would have to sell my entire squad 4 or 5 times to break even.
Another issue is with youth players being poached. I had 2 really promising 16 year olds who had seen some action in my first team. They were both signed away from me by teams in the English Conference South. Compensation to me = $0
When i look at them and select "Attempt to sign" i am gleefully informed i would have to pay $65k and $50k in compensation to their new teams. Aggghhhhhh.
Rant over. Back to the game and trying to work out how to milk the books into my own pocket since the board has no objection to losing money hand-over-fist.
I have found in my limited LLM experience that it is a problem in most low devisions. I have managed to stem the prblem to an extent by...oh err rule. I guess you could try to...ah well um there is always...oopsy, ho hum. Guess I can't be much help (not that you were really looking for it). Good Luck
Well, if this is tipping, then I expect to have a ton of bricks coming down any time but I belive its more of an FM mechanics thing, so:
It doesnt seem to be intuitive in FM, but after getting burnt that way here is what I figured ou. What you have to do is renew the youth contract each year (offer them at least what they are making) before there is only 6 months left. That way if they get poached the other team has to pay. If they ultimately refuse to renew with you and leave, well, that's a whole other story . . .
spiff
With PSNI I had a maximum of $300 Australian dollars per week for a key players wages even when I was under the wage budget of about 4K. It took several seasons to get even a miniscule transfer fee, and this is one country where it's worth having a proper dig at the Cup.
Bear with me. If you get promoted to Div 1 you get $2k for the promotion and $5k for TV (or similar). But..
Somehow I managed to win the Irish Cup one year, which was worth around $50k or something. If you can fluke your way to the 2nd QR of the UEFA cup (I didn't ) you get about $40k. But the big thing is something called the All-Irish Cup- you get paid $250K just for playing in it. It was only after that that I got a transfer budget (although the club was almost $2m in the red).
Interesting thread, and good to see people outside Northern Ireland playing my leagues! lol
Im the head researcher in FM for Northern Ireland and unfortunately the football here has very little money in it outside the top clubs (and even most of them have severe debt issues)
With regards to generating money within the NI game, then your best bet is cup progress - as already said the money is to be made in the 'All Ireland Cup' or 'Setanta Cup' in real life. This is a cross-border competition in which the best sides in Northern Ireland take on the best in the Republic of Ireland. All games are televised and a large kitty is available.
My best advice though, invest in youth - use your scouts to search the length and bredth of britain and the best bet is to sign potential stars around 15/16, when they hit 17 sign them on two year contracts - big english clubs/scottish etc should come in for them and although they'll have a value of only 10k you could potentially get as much as half million to 1,000,000 within the first two seasons. Im about to start a thread regarding my progress with a Northern Irish club. Will link it when its up - I hope it inspires more to take on the challenge!
You're right Gillmacs i wasn't really looking for any tips but just needed to vent. Northern Ireland is a LOT of fun.
In a way the lack of money is a great leveller, a couple of good scouting and recruiting moves can really set you up talent wise to push all the way from the Second Division to the Premier Division (i hope). I am not sure how much money the big clubs like Linfield have but i'm sure with the small crowd numbers it isn't much either.
I am determined to reach the Premier Division and maybe even the hallowed All Ireland Cup.
Well I might just give it a go when I grow tired of/get completely fed up with/qualifly for the Champions league with and so end the LLMness of my current game. Usually I'm not a big fan of managing outside of England as I know the leagues a lot better but I guess in LLM that doesn't matter so much
