Hi! Been playing way too much English LLM, so I've decided to board the boat and head off to Spain. Started a new game and randomly picked Spanish club, Cartagena (sp).
However, the club's reputation happens to be regional and my reputation has shot up to local. I'm rather used to seeing obscure reputation or worse so this is very new to me.
Is this normal in the Spanish leagues or is this one of the 'Weymouth' type clubs I should avoid?
Well it's worth bearing in mind that Division 2B clubs are the third tier of Spanish football, whereas with English LLM the clubs are in the 6th tier. So this might explain the difference in reputation.
Playing Spanish LLM is a lot of fun. Having lived in Spain, I find it particularly fun to play in Andalucia (2B division 4), with clubs like Cordoba or Villanueva de Cordoba. It's quite a challenge getting the worst of the 2B clubs up, so if you're looking for a challenge, Spain is the place to go.
Some of the Segunda B clubs have regional reputations, but many have only a local reputation. I usually glance at the reputation and stadium size of various clubs before making my choice, to make sure that I'm not getting an easy go of it. There are some clubs at the Segunda B level that used to be in the Primera or Segunda that have large stadiums and high reputations. And you'll probably want to avoid these for sure.
The thing that makes the Segunda B a challenge, though, is that you have to win two rounds of playoffs to gain promotion, even if you win your group outright. That is a tough task, and you'll consistently see teams finish at the top of the table but then crash out in the playoffs against teams from the other groups.
In my last FM2005 saved game, I saw a team easily win its group in three straight seasons, but it failed to win in the playoffs and lost out on promotion every time.
I love the Spanish Second Division B. As Greg says, because of the system in promotion even a giant of a team would struggle to consistently get promoted every time: so don't worry too much about the club's reputation - it doesn't really count for a lot.
I played at Benidorm in FM2005 and it was possibly the most enjoyable save I've had. Until I lost the dressing room, that is.
Cheers! Thanks for the comments. I started the game yesterday and my wife is wondering why I'm doing 'database reorganisation and optimisation' work at 5 in the morning.
