The only stat a player needs to succeed. Its totally overcooked. All a striker needs is pace and finishing over 12 and he'll score 20+ goals a season for anyone, in any league. A winger with good pace and nothing else will constantly get past his man and set up goals. A defender with pace and crap tackling will rarely be beaten. And on and on and ariston.
Would you not consider this realistic though? I think that this reflects real-life in the majority of cases. i.e Not many great wingers are slow and not many slow strikers score a lot of goals.
Very true. I'm Ipswich and Danny Haynes with pace 17 scored 39 league goals to win me the Championship. The rest of the team did have their share but it was mainly him. Scored an amazing 25 goals off corners. Gary Roberts (pace 9) finished with 38 assists for the season. But he took all the corners!
This is the case in 07 as well. Strikers with 16+ pace when matched against slow defenders have 90% chance of scoring. Defenders with low pace get owned no matter how deep your d-line is set. Except in 07 there's one other key attribute: jumping. Now that jumping is toned down in 08, pace is indeed the most important attribute.
I don't have a problem with this, but i do have concerns that most regens have crap Pace, and the fact that Physical stats never drastically improve, which means regens with 8 or less in Physical stats (or just all single digits) are pretty much screwed, since they'll never grow to become a Kaka or Ronaldo.

How much pace do you need to score from a corner?!
Slow strikers: Viduka, Ronaldo (later on in his career), Adriano, Crouch, Klose, even Puskas. Pace isn't needed by any means. Areial ability will get you just as far.
Wingers I agree with you though.
As forin the match engine, it's not as bad as last year, is it? Physical stats were more important than technical stats then, and even more so than mental, when IRL mental is proberbly the most important catergory of stats. Plenty of people have the technical abilty of a premiership footballer (those that don't make the final few cuts) and even more have the physical ability. Mental stats should be given higher weighting.
