Tactics optimised for pace should be more successful, but not unstoppable like they are in CM/FM match engines. AI and human defences alike should be better at anticipating and/or defending deeper effectively so they are very rarely caught out by faster strikers. Relatively slow defenders like Carragher are rarely troubled by mediocre fast strikers in normal circumstances IRL.

This probably was worse back in CM4 when I could win the league by a landslide with a team of physical players with CA averaging around the 130 mark and a player who had a jumping attribute 1 point higher than the playermarking them would almost invariably win the header.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar only has pace and acceleration of about 12-13. But, since I signed him for Man Utd in the January transfer window he's been banging in the goals against all levels of opposition.

I've always looked for pace throughout my team, so can't say i've noticed...

But then, pace can be the difference between an okay and an excellent player in reality. Imagine a slow Overmars or Anelka...

Now imagine the player, say, Bergkamp could have been with Anelka or Overmars's pace... Forget "one of the best in his generation", we'd be talking Pele.

No other stat seems to be such a "make or break"er in reality as pace and acceleration. I'd rather Overmars than Overmars with Beckham's crossing but no pace.

Can't say I've seen anything like what people are talking about here.

I have no trouble defending against pacey strikers and having had Aguero (19 acc, 17 pace) and Agbonlahor (20 acc, 20 pace) in the same side I have to say that mental and technical stats are far more important that outright speed over a certain level.

Huntelaar in game is slower than most defenders and isnt exactly dominant in the air, yet if you build your tactic around him he will get a lot more goals than some no-skill speed merchant

^ same here.

Haven't noticed it being the only attribute that matters, though i will admit that i never buy anyone with pace under 14 (12 if it's a low level league).

Try playing Pro Evo with 11 slow players and tell me pace isnt vital ;-)

(11 slow players means of course, the original team)

Look into the lower leagues especially and see so many crap players who are playing due to pace and pace only.

Heck, on my current game I have a rubbish player, but 20 pace/accel, so I bring him on to counter attack late in games.

I think its fine.
