oo and also, i dont really understand the re-ranking system but...i won the league last season so does that mean i should generally more attacking? if so would a slow, short passing, but attacking, wide, pressing tactic fit?

About the home formation with 3 at the back, if you want to challenge for titles I wouldn't recommend this. No matter how good your defensive line is, unless you have everything completely perfect in your instructions and players don't make mistakes very often then you are always going to give alot of chances away. To try this though I would set the 3 at the back ultra defensive in player instructions playing direct passing (to get the ball futher up field), and very low closing down (so they dont get dragged out of position too often).

About the reranking, it happens all the time, before or after every match (can't remember which). This means that if you won the league the season before, alot of teams will play far more defensive against you knowing about your ability. So even though it seems that more attacking would be the way to go, often a defensive formation with counter attack will be more succuessful against AI defensive tactics. This is mainly based on drawing the opposition out and then hitting them quickly when they have players out of position. In my experience if you don't do this, some of the smaller teams can get some pretty unexpected results against you.

For the first tactic you put up, the instrucitons look ok. I would personally leave the creative freedom set to mixed/normal whatever that is and adjust this in player instructions. I would give my wingers mixed creative freedom, defenders little, my AMC high creative freedom (maybe even a free role or play maker) and target man on low creative freedom (so he focuses mainly on his job rather than attempting anything special too often). With 5 at the back though you might be able to push your defensive line further forward and crowd the opposition out in the AMC area, so it might be quite effective.

thanks very very much for your indepth help

i won title last year, so judging on what you are saying, since my defensive line isnt amazing yet (its quite young) i will stick to my 4-4-2 with AMR+AMLs with farrows which was unbeaten last year at home

but im gonna test out this 5 man defensive line

thanks, ill use your advice and tell you how successful it is

also, what instructions should the SW have? I was thinking:

defensive mentality
very low CF
low closing down
high passing? (since ill probs be using araujo who is a decent passer)

rarely on everything except thru balls?

what do you think?

Looking at the first formation again, you might want to play more direct in general as there is quite a bit of space between a few of your players, and playing a low tempo short passing game means you could be giving the ball away a fair bit in your own half if passing goes astray as thats where you have most of your players. At least with direct if you give it away due to bad passing it will be alot further forward.

Sweeper instructions I'd set pretty similar to the rest of the defenders really, he's doing the same job just slightly deeper. This thread might be worth a quick read through if you are playing with a 5 man defence. It's about varying the closing down slightly on each defender to stop them going for the same ball, which can make a 4 man defence pretty solid. I haven't tried it's effects with a 5 man though.

5 Man defensive Line? Hmm...its very defensive for away games. Having said that you wouldn't know till you tried it. Looking at it, you have 2 fullbacks who can have very attacking mentalities, 2 Wingers who can be given freeroles as well. Depending on your instructions it could play out.

I like your away tactic it has potential. but it depends on what you want to do. I've had more success playing away than at home. Give your tactics a run for a while, and make some modifications to width and tempo and even the global mentality settings before you chuck a tactic.
