It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Is it possible to win anything?

Is it really possible to win anything in this game?

I've never had any trouble in any of the previous games but this one i've played as Man Utd, Milan, Barca, Inter, Chelsea and i have played something like 200 games but i can count on both my hands the amount of wins i've had

I've had even less games where i've kept a clean sheet.

.eg. just before posting this i lost to Wigan at home in the first season 4-1 with Man Utd

I've tried the WWFans and cleons aproach to name a couple but nothing different happens.

I have also gone through so many formations:
4-4-2
4-1-2-1-2
5-3-2
4-2-2-2
3-5-2
4-2-3-1
4-3-2-1

Please someone through me a lifeline before i get myself shipped off to the local looney bin

Burst....I feel your pain. I have also spent hours reading thread after thread about these tatics, however there is only so much you can implement and only so much time (if you have a life) trying to see what works and doesn't with out restarting a bunch of times.

I think the conclusion I have come too is yes you can win, however it's not something you can do by playing straight thru. You have to be willing to sit down and try a million different tatics restart a million times at the start of your game, and also be willing to spend alot of time within each game making tatical changes. And, still the computer will do a variety of things to pull out a result despite your best efforts. Your part-time FM player who likes to play for fun, is not going to be successful in 07 on a regular basis. It's a shame.

I'm afraid to say that no you can't win anything. As a matter of fact, given that you've managed to actually get any sort of victory over any side it is obvious to me that you've cheated or used an editor. I myself have played over 500 matches and my best result yet was a 2-2 draw yet my opposition were denied 4 clear penalties and had 7 goals rules out for offside. That was me playing as liverpool against lincoln utd in the fa cup 3rd round. At home.

OK, now on a serious note, of course it's possible to win something otherwise they wouldn't make the game so this is a stupid question.
This is the first management sim I've ever played and I've taken Lincoln to the Championship in 5 seasons so it's DEFINITELY possible. I've not really tried with bigger teams but I've got eastbourne boro promoted to the CON in my first season there too.

Basically, all you need is practice. And don't try all these threads which tell you what to do because in my view that's cheap and cheating. I've tried numerous tactics and settled on one that seems to work alright for me, but I didn't copy other people. Real football, you don't just copy what other people do you have to work out how youre team should play yourself. Keep practicing and you'll get there, but to be perfectly honest stop whinging because you haven't got it right yet. Yeesh.

Im sorry Fluorine but it is just not true that you need to cheat to have success.

If this was the case I wouldn't play the game.

I understand if people are struggling with the game and agree that it is not perfect, however it is a very good game as it is now and there is no reason why you cannot have success.

I have just taken Vauxhall into League 2 after winning the Conference.

It is possible and without cheating.

Big apology to Fluorine

Note to myself, read the whole response before replying.

Again apologies.

I'm having the same sort of problem as you Burst. I first started as Man Utd when i got the game and, even with buying 3 top class players i still could only manage 1 win and 3 draws in 7 games.

After coming to realise that premiership life wasn't for me i decided to become Rushden and Diamonds manager. In 5 4 seasons I've got them into the championship. The only thing i have won is the Conference North, and that was because I scored 2 more goals than the team in second.

Its so hard to find a winning formula but i guess thats whats makes it fun... sort of

Yeah its possible. The following isnt bragging but just illustating my point:

I got AFC Wimbledon from the Conf South to the championship winning the Carling Cup on the way. I just plugged away twiddling with my own tactics when they seemed to need it, trying home/away tactics saving/altering them over time.

So, success. The problem unfortunatley is is that I dont understand why I have been successful, I dont know what I did that won games. Was it the players? Was it luck? was it my tactical genius? (no!).

It was pleasing to get promotions under my own steam but baffling as I dont know why.

I didnt come on this forum at all til recently when I got promoted into the premiership, I too have started using all the different approaches and tactics because I was daunted managing in the prem without a clue how I got there. None of them have worked for me for more than a few months and I am again lost wondering what to do.

I am at the point where Im deleting all the tactics Ive downloaded and trying again blindly fumbling in the dark.

My previous career mirrored this pretty much exactly. I eventually got to the point where I won the champions league and the world cup, dunno how. I recently tried the Home/Away tactic that won trophies in my previous game. For my current AFC game was as useless as others Ive tried.

My only suggestion is stop downloading tactics and try to develop your own over time. It'll eventually work but I'll be buggered if I know why.
