Hello, I play a 4-4-2, pretty attacking with lots of assists from my wingers/forwards, but i struggle to get Cesc or any other player i try in the middle involved in either goals or assists, anyone else having this problem? I have tried giving the player in that position more freedom but it seems to leave a huge gap in my midfield if i do so.

My DMC ( Gilberto ) plays as he does in real life, protecting the back four, pressing and little or no forwards activity, so giving Cesc or another player through the middle some freedom should be ok.

Well, if you wingers and forwards are creating enough goals than youre fine. You dont need Cesc to do it. Give him a forard arrow to the center and as long as his sending quality balls to the other attackers and winning some battle in the midfield than hes doing hes job. Its not all about goals and assists.

You could also try focusing passing through the middle, however as said in the previous post, if you are creating and scoring enough goals there is no real need to change things around too much, he might be contributing plenty that is just unseen if you aren't watching the match in full (only key incidents).

What style of passing are you using. If it is direct or long, your defenders will be hoofing it up front and bypassing the midfield.

Another point is that if your wingers have Farrows then you midfielders might be sat too deep for where the majority of your attacking play is. If you drop your wingers back a bit you might find your midfielder is able to join in the play more.

But as the others have said dont fix what aint broke!

i've had reasonable success with telling the mc's to make forward runs rarely, but keep the mentality balanced for your style.

Set forward runs on to make your players participate more in attacks

don't tick free role and also set all instructions to mixed he's gonna decide what to do and ı'm sure you'll see some improvements..

if mc's are run forward often, then they can get caught in the box even when the ball breaks from the penalty area, so attacks are less supported.

you want your cesc/pirlo/xabi type player to be able to survey the options so rare forward runs i feel is key.

I found Cesc to be a bit rubbish unless he was at MC with no arrows (even tho he's somewhat good at AMC in terms of positions) and was playmaker. Gave him FR mixed and TTB often and he got loads of passes and, especially, key passes.

However, this was so inflexible that I sold him and got Van der Vaart instead, as he can play AMC and score goals too.
