It depends also not only from mentality it's not so easy.If it were so I would beat any grand team with my National(Romania).And don't you think we are talking about formations,Nistelrooy?

I'm not sure you can isolate this from players - you need to take account of where the opposition are strong and counter this.

I usually play 4-4-2 diamond with a target man but recently came up against Newcastle, who were playing 3-5-2 attacking. Their 3 MCs were ruining me, as I have NO MCs, and I could get any advantage on the flanks because of their wingbacks.

I therefore rearranged to play 4-3-1-2, with my own 3 MCs, an AMC running to FC and my FCs pulling out to the wings. This countered their strength (midfield) and took advantage of their weakness (no fullbacks). I also farrowed my own fullbacks, because they had no AMCs or wingers and so my DCs could take care of their strikers. This compensated for my own lack of wingers.

Generally I tend to shift my midfield about in this kind of way - for instance, against teams with no AMs I often move my DMC to MC, sometimes with a barrow and sometimes not (depending on how many chances I'm getting against me). Alternatively, sometimes I move the AMC back to MC.

In some cases I have found this to be true.

However you must make a distinction between the 'attacking' and defensive formations - which are not apprent from the positions on the screen - it is all about the sliders settings the ai uses.

For instance the defensive 442 the AI almost always uses against high level ability teams inthe EPL is almost always the version with the two small winged farrows. Once you get to recognise this you can think of unique ways to counter it.

You can extend this thinking to the 424 and all the other formations the AI generally employs. TI looked at the effectiveness of my formations agains the ai here, if its of any use:
