It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

The fact that it is possible to do well with smaller clubs (over time) has always been the appeal of Football Manager, and it's quite clear that this is still possible.

Cleon's record was, frankly, quite incredible, but it was the work of someone that has completely sussed the game out. Nobody else has really managed to come close to that. However, if you do well at the game you can still, over a few seasons, put together a world beating side at "smaller" clubs such as Forest or even Wycombe Wanderers.

I'm one that still feels that it should be possible to succeed when you get in the right players and chose the right strategy with any club, and in that sense I don't want the game to be more "realistic". I would like the game more accessable.

I don't think the game is too hard (nor too easy), but it needs a different approach to the previous versions, and that's why people complain.

Certainly not everyone, if they can back up why they think the game needs improving with either a constructive suggestion or at least shows some thought into why they think the game isn't that good. But you've got to admit, there are too many who simply say "this game is crap and unrealistic" who quite obviously haven't thought about it in the slightest. You're not one of these people.

With great tactic Sheffield united in real life can be able to achieve a mid table position at best. Bring on the best coaches, the scholaris, mourinhos and capellos. Would they be able to win Sheffield united the league in the first season? No, probably they won't be able to acieve that in 10 seasons.

And thats where I think Cleons experiment points out beyond doubt that the game is flawed and does not mimic real life as well as it is made out to be.
But its not real life its a simulation game. Would you ever be a manager of any club? I doubt it, the list of flaws I could say is huge. However many forget that while the game is supposed to be a close simulation of real world football, some aspects are not, i.e you th manager, me winning league with Sheff Utd etc.

Hello2, as close as possible does not mean it should be possible to win the league with sheffield united losing just one match. That is about as far removed from reality as you can hope to get.
Not everyone can win the league though with Sheff Utd. I bet very few could from the off. Not everyone knows the match engine like certain people on here.

I just feel that the game discounts footballer prowess a little too much...with great management i would expecvt sheffield to pull a couple of mighty scalps, have good cup runs, and a mid table finish...thats all. If they can win the league unbeaten with good management, then for me that is not how it should be.

It seems that the general idea here is that if anyone is not happy with something in the game he is a whiner...
Again you are comparing real life to simulations in terms of expectancy. While IRL I doubt SUFC would ever win the prermiership, but in terms of FM anything is achievable with any team in any league. Its why after all its a game....

Many people see the league table and the stats I posted and think it was a walk in the park. However when you read the thread all the way through I hope people begin to notice that it was actualy hard work and a lot of time and effort was put into that game. How many times did I turn a gam around? The games I was loosing somehow by making a few changes I managed to get something, where as others might have gave up already.

Once you have an idea how the game works and your theories serve you well, then you have half the battle won.

Cleon, what you did was really tough, i have taken my hats off to you already. i am not for a moment saying that everyone can win the league with sheffield united, i personally would not come close.

But the point i want to make is that for the AI managers, what you did would be a walk in the park...and that would make the game unrealistic. i am not saying that your achievement does it, because of course you are good at this, better than almost anyone

But again you are comparing RL managers to what I achieved on a game. You simply cannot do that as they are both completly different things.
