Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Tactical Advice needed

Hey guys. In need of some tactical advice.

1. I am currently playing as Nottingham Forrest in League One with a 4-4-2 Diamond formation using the ROO Mentality. I am struggling to get my AM to get into the game. I had him on to Often Forward Runs which meant he was practically next to the strikers but has anyone experienced putting the AM runs set to Rarely. This way I am hoping he will stay available for players to pass to him but I am worried it will make it easier for him to be picked up by the opposition.

2. My Centre backs are getting caught with the ball too often. I have defenders on Direct passing but I am wondering if this could be one causes why they are dwelling on the ball too long as they are waiting for someone to get into space so they can pass to them. I have experimented with the Time Wasting and know this is not the cause.

I played forest on fairly high ability settings as tghey have a decent squad, esp with Kommons.

I used the AM for the link up plays when taking forest into the prem in all my formations with them.

On the defenders, I prefer shorter passing as it leads to much more posession and buld u player, but most players on this site seem to prefer to hoof it longer (based on the tactics Ive seen)

Cheers Socks.

What Instructions did you have for AM?

I remember I did set the centre backs passing to short when I first started my tactic but they just passed amongst themselves. I've maybe just got to find the right setting between short and mixed.

I generally keep all my team passing the same way, short. If I have a low ability team I set the defenders on mixed passing.

I try to keep the AM mentaility the same as the players around him so he can be an effective link man. If you look at the passing on my 442 and 4312 tactics you will see this method in action. The 442 I actually used on Forest to get them in the prem and might be worth a look.

Its a good club to experiment ideas with I have found, and I suggest getting the most out of the better players - Natham Tyson can go onto pretty good things but you will want to restructure for the prem when you get there.
