Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default newly promoted: what mentality/tactics are best?

just got promoted with MK Dons. Now im not a big club in the league anymore, expected 21st.

I play a 442 with AMR and AML with farrows at home and the same formation with no farrows on wingers, but barrows on full backs when away.

I won the league last season by changing my upping my everything up a bit at home with mentality on first notch of attacking and away with it on centre.

I have found that whether i am home or away, other teams are putting really big ass farrows on their wingers, implying they are going attacking.

so what shall i do?

HOME tactics

mentality - 1st notch of attacking
CF - middle
Passing - middle
Tempo - 2 notches right (from middle)
width - same as above
closing down - 1 more notch than above
Time wasting - middle
etc
with playmaker set

and AWAY

ment - middle
CF- 2/3 left from middle
Passing - 4/5 left
Tempo - 2/3 left
width- middle
Closing down - 1 right
TWasting - left 2
etc
with counter attacking and playmaker

i have played a few games already and lost 2, 1 won and 1 drawn.

I have a decent enough squad, with great forwards and midfield (i raided slovenia ) so i think it is tactics that need sorting

cheers for all your help

Hi. I took Lincoln up from L2 to L1 and I seem to remember what I did was change my formation to a 5-3-2 away from home but I'm not certain cos I'm now in my 8th season and in the championship.

What I'd recommend for some smaller touches is to lower some things such as creative freedom because your more likely to get caught out as you are against better opposition every match. Minor touches such as this should help you.

But to be perfectly honest if it worked in league 2 then you should have enough success with it in league 1. Four games in to the season is a bit difficult to tell whether or not the tactisc are working, it would be better if you progressed to at least 10 games before you really start to analyse your tactics properly. Let's say you were sat 18th after 10 games or something. If you feel you are happy enough and your not conceding too many or scoring too few then I'd stick with it. If your in the relegation zone but you've just been unlucky I'd stick with it. But you need more time to find out.

I came 19th in my first season in league 1 and was hovering around 16th all season. I've changed my tactic since then because I recall i alternated between a 5-3-2 and a 4-1-3-2, just because it suited me.

One additional thing I would recommend. Decrease time wasting at home slightly and increase it away because at the moment that doesn't look right. Don't put it as high as often but just above the central line should be good enough away from home.

Sorry if I've waffled, but good luck with your game! I can try and help again if u give me an update after 10-15 games.
