I know its been done to death on here about the lack of feedback from SI and the need to know just a little more about what the sliders represent etc, but my big problem is watching players who have impressed with their instructions game after game, suddenly to lose the plot completely and made to look foolish by the match engine?.
After having a fantastic run with my West Ham side, thanks to a very good tactic i d/loaded here, i came up against Arsenal away in the Qtr Final of the F.A. Cup. Almost immediately i could see the problem we were going to face, it was'nt the sort of thing you can account for in your instructions or tactics though?. Basically it came down to what MY players were doing different when they had or did'nt have the ball!.
For instance, i bought Van Der Vaart and his passing and creativity have superb all season, yet with the same instructions as in prior games he was playing suicidal passes under NO pressure whatsoever?(i know what you are going to say, but yes there was always an easy pass available to him). I even saw him twice go to pass the ball, only for the ball to flip up in the air, straight to an opposing player, this was'nt a first time pass as he already had the ball under control?.
How am i supposed to interprate that in a tactical point of view?.
Another thing i noticed early on that was going to see us struggle was the fact that Arsenal were just shooting from anywhere. Even having my players closing down, they simply shot through them like they were'nt there?. I understand that the match engine has to represent Arsenal as a top side, but the way its been illustrated leaves you at a loss as to how to deal with it in a tactical sense?.
We actually had more possesion in and around the box in an attacking sense too, but unlike Arsenal who were simply shooting on site, my strikers(Tevez and Ashton), would wait an eternity to get a shot off, by which time they were either blocked, tackled or the chance had gone?.
What i suppose i'm saying is that albeit we can still fathom out some success without any true knowledge of what a slight tweak of the sliders make, how are we supposed to make the correct in match tweaks when there is absolutely no understanding of why a player will suddenly forget how to pass a ball or take a shot?.
If i could physically see my players being closed down quicker, or that they had no real outlet for an easy pass, then i could tweak my tactics to address the matter, but when its simply a case of "God knows why he's doing it", then there is little or no action you can take?.
