How can you stop conceding goal from outside the box without upping closing down and getting players dragged out of position?
Also I seem to concede an awful lot of goals from weak clearences by my defenders, how do I improve without setting them to direct / long passing as i don't want then to 'hoof' the ball up field when they have time on the ball, only when under pressure?
How to do I defend against general crosses?
And finally... how the hell to I get more of my chances converted by both strikers and midfielders?

what are your keepers positioning and reflex stats?
in general, too many long shots = need for a new keeper, with better positioning, anticipation and refexes.
To defend against crosses give your fullbacks an individual instruction to mark the wingers (show onto weaker foot if necessary.) also don't allow them, your fullbacks to make too many forward runs.
Scoring chances is simply down to your striker combination. Get it right, and goals should follow. between your two strikers at least one should have excellent teamwork & workrate, one should be good in the air and one of them has to have some sort of pace.
Stats for consistent goalscorers - finishing, composure, off the ball and decisions. A fair bit of pace wouldn't hurt either, as well as good technique...
