I'd rather play an out-of-position player whose stats give the slightest hint that he mighn't do that bad there than jump at grey-lotto.

And that without getting into a theoretical discussion on whether it is realistic to fit in a player whose wages you aren't paying and who doesn't even exist.

I had to play a centre forward at left back in an FM2005 game, he turned out to be better than my regular left backs, ended up playing him there for 3 seasons, never had a word of complaint either.

In FM 2006 this is no longer a problem. I usually have to promote 3-4 grays in my first season and I even once managed to sell one afterwards...

TC - ehhh, pity my DC wasn't like that - the git demanded transfer after two games being played as DR...

Yeah... and it will be worse if you are in my situation at my game...

Incredibly, Something wierd happens with my grey players... and the grey players from all the others teams even the worse ones.. They are all super stars!!

It's no joke, and it's no lie! It must be becouse i play with "real names" disabled! If i hired - or use - the grey players i will have a "Italian Serie A Mit-Table" squad in a team from Serie C2/C (Giugliano)!

So i can't never use them, and i can't never hire them...

Valid point, Jordi. I guess I'm guilty of not looking at the bigger picture here and focusing on my own game when I'm discussing this - I tend to keep the youth team stocked with emergency backups when I can, and use a specialist youngster over an out of position player which doesn't have that theoreticl problem. The only position I've ever really needed to use a grey in is GK, where I'll take my chances with a crap specialist over an outfielder every time. Of course, a few seasons in now, I have at least two kid keepers too, so I'm not likely to use a grey again.
