I'm thinking of starting my first LLM game. I have read the stickys at the top regarding rules etc but I have a couple of questions that I can't see answered definitively. I have emailed the mods to ask their advice but they must be a bit busy at the moment.
1) It seems the primary (and often only) way of finding new players is to send out the scouts and this is usually done to surrounding leagues etc. I was wondering is it OK to search through Premiership reserve teams and then assign scouts to these players clubs? It seems LLM is trying to be realistic, I would assume real LLM's do this, particularly towards the end of the season when contracts are expiring. Is this OK or frowned upon?
2) From reading the first two "Rules" of playing LLM:
1) Choose a team. Play the same team until you've won everything you can, regardless how long it takes, or until you're sacked. Then start a new game.
2) Choose a team. Play until your reputation attracts the interest of ever increasingly bigger teams; change Clubs as and when you're offered jobs until you're in charge at Real Madrid, Juventus, Man Utd or a World Cup winning Manager with San Marino.
Which is usually the done thing here? From reading peoples exploits it seems option 1 is the most frequent (ie winning the World Club Championship with Vauxhall Motors). Am I missing something or does it defeat the object to move clubs when reputation allows? In theory I could be only 2/3 seasons with Barrow then get the Swindon job, then the QPR job, then the Man Utd job then have won everything by 2012? Or am I misunderstanding something there?
Many thanks

1) Scouts are indeed the only way. I wouldn't select players from a premiership reserve team to scout, as I don't see on what basis you could be making a judgement on who to scout.
2) Whichever suits you, I don't tend to job hop, but sometimes sackings leave you no choice.

I personally do not send scouts to view a particular team, I send them to scout an area or an individual if he has been mentioned in the media. The idea of LLM is realism, I think it is unlikely that a player from a Premier League club would grace the fields of an ECN/ECS club.
With regards to the career question, most people here take a team as far as they can in terms of reputation and finance and then jump ship to a better club. It's unlikely you will find a thread with an ECN/ECS team in the Premiership.

Realism is the key. If I was, say managing Basingstoke (ECS), it might be reasonable to send out my scout to watch a local side (e.g. Reading), but it doesn't seem realistic to send him up to Old Trafford on the "off chance".

do what suits you. After all, you should enjoy the game. I'm a job hopper myself, although I don't pick any offer that comes but only ones I feel I have deserved and earned.

I agree with the others, but would add that most of here do not apply for jobs but would consider what we would deem to be realistic offers from higher placed teams.
On scouting, most LLM scouts would be looking around the same league or lower, it is not really realistic for a premiership trainee to join a conference North/South side, they would be looking more for the championship or League 1 teams.
However, my scout has found out of contract premiership trainees for me, some of whom turned out quite reasonable. I must admit though to buying a few, who looked good, that proved to be aweful both in their playing performance and in their behaviour.

Joel, first of all many apologies for not replying to your e-mail. For some reason it wasn't forwarded to my own e-mail addy, but that's not your problem.
1) Scouting's the LLM way. There's no way an LLM Club scouts the reserve squads of Premiership Clubs so I'd personally stay well away from that. When your scout does UK and Ireland after the July 1st window he'll pick up anyone interested and who he thinks is worthwhile.
Scouting reserve squads defeats the purpose of LLM as it's definitely an attempt to gain an advantage over the game's AI.
Michal's caveat applies, of xure
2) LLaMas choose their own direction, to be "frank". I used to be of the "one team" persuasion, now if a realistic job offer comes along, with a good pay hike in FM2006, then I'll take it.
Again, apologies and good luck
