I'm glad as well, since it must be a really bad situation. Do you know the Transrapid? (MagLev highspeed train). Siemens and other German companies built the transport system for the Shanghai airport in China, using the Transrapid technology. They were promised that if things go well, they would also build a way longer high-speed route.
Well, now it came out that China suddenly has their own MagLev Technology. They claim they invented it themselves but to me it's clear that they used the existing Shanghai track to rip it all off. Prime example, isn't it?

Sounds suspicious. I know China's reputation for quality assurance is improving but you do have to wonder.
All we really hear about China is how great it is that they need all this iron ore from Oz. Keeps the shareholders of large mining companies happy --- and since those same shareholder run the media.
BHP and Rio Tinto just announced they nearly doubled their profit for the past year.

| I'm afraid you're just betraying your own prejudices, Cosmo. Chinese industry has a very successful recent history of clean room reengineering of Western technology products. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clean_room_design
Since European (and US) patent laws have no jurisdiction in China, it's entirely legal and reasonable for them to reverse engineer a product then build their own.
Of course it's easier to think that they are all shifty slanty-eyed freaks who couldn't possibly be as clever as Germans.

Cosmo.. i don't hate democracy, i hate capitalism and they have no connection in my view!
Democracy it's "People on Power", well, amount of Capital will always try to make more capital...
Those monstruous companys (Like OPEP, like car factorys, like Nike, like Weapons Producers) are ruling the wolrd now! The obliges invasion on Iraq because of the oil, the world is always on war because of the Weapons, Africa and some parts of Asia MUST be poor for so they can find cheap workers etc... Ok.. you are now thinking that i'm speaking about conspiracy theory but think man... if they have the power, why they would not do this?
In fact i think that Capitalism makes impossible the existance of Democracy...
You may no agree Cosmo... but i respect your opinion! |

| What prejudices? What are you talking about?
Refusing patents of other countries is exactly what I'm calling foul play. Just because something is legal in China, it doesn't mean it's okay. Just check out some deficits about Human rights.
Anyway, I'm not complaining about the Chinese. They have every right to rip us off. I'm complaining about us of not getting it that we're ripped off.

Democracy it's "People on Power", well, the abse of capitalism is that an amount of Capital will always try to make more capital, and that must not stop, even if th amount is absurd...

sorry, dGreb, I didn't see your point between all the propaganda.
Democracy means that there is no ruling class that makes the decisions but the masses. Unfortunately, the masses can be spin-controlled. And the control costs money. So if you got money, it's easier to do the control. Thus serving your cause, which leads to even more success and money.
It's a simple game of cause and effect. And why can it happen? Because democracy (usually) allows for almost everything.
