I don't want to be banded in with the negative FM jibers that I've read about since FM08 was released. I've always preferred to stay positive about a game that I have loved for the past 15 years.
A friend and I, as sad as it seems, have been addicted to it ever since the early release and now that we live apart with kids etc, we still play it online when we get the chance.
I'm sorry to say, but the bugs in the new game have finally, well, bugged me. A few nights back, I endured 2 hours of constantly being kicked out. And last night, we were both kicked out and when we got back in (friend is the server) it had taken us back to last save point meaning we had lost 2 hours of play. With windows of opportunity to play FM low these days, it made me pretty peed off. The worst was not managing to sign the players I had signed before it had crashed, and losing games I had won before it had crashed.
I could go on all day about the bugs we have discovered, sespecially the inaccurate and often hilarious data (best one was a player I signed came up in the news as playing 87 games in 2 weeks for previous club). And the slowness. We are both on 8MB broadband, is is pain stakingly slow.
I'm on Vista and friend is acting as the server using XP. We both have powerful laptops. Maybe that is the problem. But in this day and age with technology the way it is, for a game which is still essentially a text based game, this should not happen. I've lost the love a little. No, a lot. Its like falling out of love with something that used to make you excited and feel alive. I'm sick. It has made me not want to play it until these bugs are ironed out. And that seems a long way off.
Sorry FM lovers. This new game is the best by a mile concept-wise but the worst as far as bugs are concerned. So I'm switching off until the programmers sort it out.
Prank - maybe I was hasty. But ignore the game based engine, the rest of the game is text which makes up for the majority of the game. Either way, it still does not condone the issues we are all facing.
