Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Man Utd vs Arsenal

This is my first tough game of the season (although I've notched 6 wins in a row) and I am a complete noob at FM 07, so what would be the best formation to use, with the current Man UTd squad?

The typical 442 doesn't seem to work in real life, and Sir Alex uses a 433 against the bigger teams in the prem. What are your suggestions?

I always struggle against Arsenal. I usually use opposition instructions against the bigger teams, setting to closing down on all the midfielders and strikers, aswell as showing strikers onto their wrong foot. You will have to play a fairly deep defensive line with defensive mentality. I play a slow short passing game trying to keep the ball away from them.

I usually play sort of formation with United. Scholes as the centre midfielder on the right and Carrick/Lucas (when I sign him) as the centre midfielder running back to DM. It seems to work fairly well with closing down the opponents up front and in midfielder. If they have quick strikers though I take the forward arrows off my wingers so they track back a bit more.

4-4-2 would work fine without leaving too many gaps. Just try not to attack too much.
