I posted something very similar to this in another thread, but I thought it would gain a little more exposure if I gave it its own place. Admittedly, this probably does not belong in this section, but I know a lot more people that frequent the tactics forum. Please forgive me.
I have noticed lately that a lot of people are complaining again (non-constructively), concluding that the game is flawed. Well I have to disagree. The game itself is not flawed since it's designed the way it's supposed to work. The manual is flawed, the feedback system is flawed, but the game itself is not. After 7 months of playing I have found my magical formula. Finally! As happy as I am, and as renewed as my spirit is for the game, it's a little frustrating that I got here through trial and error. A lot of mouse abuse and sulking could have been avoided if only I had the information and feedback I now have 'discovered'. A lot of people find this part of the game most enjoyable—the trial & error approach is a journey of challenge and happiness for a lot of people, although not for me.
Our level of expectation for this game now is so sky-high that we seem to have lost a sense of its brilliance. No game comes within 1,000 miles of FM's level of intricacy, detail, realism, research, re-playability or scope. I would encourage you all to stick with it and keep it simple (mentality GLOBAL). This is how I get my teams to perform to the highest potential. This way you are merely providing a solid base, not over-complicating things, and from this base you can rely on your players' ability to win you those trophies. I can safely conclude that a global system approach with your assistant manager taking control of team-talks (attributes: determination, motivating, man management, and tactical knowledge 15 or more for Premiership, 12 or more for Championship) is a lethal concoction that consistently achieves results. I am not saying that this is the only way to implement your tactics, but I have the evidence to prove that it works for me.
I urge you all to remember what this game was, to ponder over what it is, and to salivate over what it is to become. Every game thus far has been a stepping stone closer to perfection. But with each step forward, perfection moves further and further away. This is exactly what we want. Each new development or system within the game opens new doors and new avenues for the next game to explore and strive towards. The potential of this game is immense, so let us not dilute these forums with complaints, or distort the beauty of the game with our infinite rants. Seemingly, we are all getting bogged down with the negative aspects rather than the positives. The game is not out to get YOU; it merely does what it does and it does it with great sophistication and realism. Keep this in mind: the day that this game is perfect is the day that Football Manager dies. Then what are we all going to do with our lives? 4-4-2 farrows on WGs
Mentality: Global Attacking.
Passing: Both FBs direct, CBs, CMs, and WGs mixed, 2 STs short.
Forward runs: Both FBs, 1 CM, both WGs.
Closing Down: Both STs often, both WGs often, both CMs mixed, back 4 rarely.
Defensive line: Matched mentality, so pushed up.
Tackling: Hard, except 2 CBs who were medium.
Time wasting: rarely.
Creative Freedom: Back 4 very low, Both WGs high, Both CMs medium, both STs high.
Width: Matched mentality and defensive line so wide
Through Balls: Back 4 rarely, Midfield mixed
No target man or playmaker
| Mentality: what number do you use, the is a range that all say attacking.
Defensive Line: same as mentality, but again what is the mentality?
Creative Freedom: What is considered very low for back 4? Define high? Does medium mean normal, at the mid-point?
Width: Define wide?
Your away tactic is well defined in the other thread. Do you still plan on uploading your tactics to fmdownloads tonight or this weekend? Thank you for your 3 threads and for contributing your findings with the community.

Hello I have a qns for u Arteta is god.
Do you have any proof besides your results that global mentality is the way to go?
wwfan's theory and slider apathy have also worked well for others and their results are just as impressive.
However, it is not known today whether a global mentality is better than individual mentalities.
It is stated in the game manual that defenders should have a defensive mentality even thought the team has an attacking mentality(can't remember the exact words as I have lost the manual).
There are so many theories floating around the forum that you do not know whether it is true.
For example, some people claim that the DM should have a high closing down to force pressure on the opponents, while some claim that the DM should have a low closing down and he can sweep up the interceptions.
You see what I mean?
I am interested in the global mentality as it makes sense that having every player on different mentalities tends to confuse players. However, I also believe that a defender should not have an attacking mentality. It just does not make sense.
