Well its my first season with Newcastle united (AGAIN!!!) and after a few seasons of being sacked i finally tought i'd found the formula to make our dreams come true BUT after a succesfull start in which i was unbeaten for 10, obviously the game decided enough was enough and now i can't keep a lead and have not won in six i'm in europe but again throwing away leads. Now is it a glitch in the matrix or does the new FM just give you enough to keep you happy before smashing you. If i was a rich man then i would have smashed my laptop to peices by now (i'm not a nutter ) but there must be someone out there who can understand my sheer annoyance at this and maybe offer some words of comfort. Surely i can't be the only one who has no idea where the AI gets its results from, any help or sympathy would be appreciated as the wife doesn't give a .

We all hear ya mate. Just keep at it and try reading the tactics bible. Try going global (meaning little or no individual instruction) with your tactics too, people have been having success with that.

I've never seen a team IRL that just keeps winning. Everybody has their good and bad runs.
The game wants something special from the human user to keep winning, and I know for sure that just using the same tactic all season defently is'nt the way to go.
I suggest you come up with at least 4-5 tactics (I mean styles within the same foramtion ex. 4-4-2 or 3-5-2)suited for different situations in the game. You need a tactic for
-defensive playing (against too strong teams)
-counter (to hold on to a lead late in games)
-normal (a starting tavtic in close matches)
-attacking (for home games and against weaker sides)

If you look carefully you see that all teams use theese (or another set of different tactics) over a whole season.
Even Man U, Chelsea, Barcelona have theese styles on their reperoire, using them quite differently though - I guess Chelsea likes to play more conservative in their normal approach, but they allso attack heavily when needed - and defend in away games in CL.

If you want that one dimension playing you're asking for, I think you should go and dig up an old copy of CM4

Thanks guys i seem to have gotten on better recently, one dimensional playing is not what i was after but just but you know how good it feels when you think you've cracked it. But this is an awsome game so you have to keep on plodding along

i would recommend my tactic as i'm doing good with newcastle with it but using my tactic, when you win things you won't feel half as happy as you would if you did it yourself,

i'll try and say a few musts for me (and i don't mean this to be patronsing

creative freedom on low for gk & defenders and when playing against better teams, use it sparingly (as the manual states)

passing style normally gets shorter, the more attacking player you have (but not all the time) i play a short, fast game and i normally have mr,mr,mc(the attacking one) & 2 st on the first notch of mixed(1 up from short) and the gk,defence, & dm on last notch of mixed, things like that are a normality but don't think you have to do that

if you play martins and rossi first season then cross to far post (lots of tap ins)

cross to near post from corners and get taylor to do a near post flick on and ramage/moore/bramble to challenge keeper

closing down lowish for gk & defence, quite high for everyone else, especially dm(parker)

wwfan tactical guidance was the best, i was doing great with the hammers and then decided to try a tactic posted in this forum (i won't name names). From then on its just been downhill all the way, i haven't won in 12, tevez has had 4 red cards, my top goalscorer is perfecting his johny wilko impressions and ferdinand (just liek his brother) just can't be arsed. Ive now reverted back to the old way but the team are so demoralised by this point that any hope of european redemption is out of the window I guess thats the new revolutionalised FM for ya.

I am trying wwwfans tactic if I can understand it, I tried someone elses just now (no names no pack drill ) and it started well but it was the same as all the others, you end up losing almost every game as usual.

Are there any other tactics that are proven over a long period of time? Ive had enough of spotty 15 year olds telling me they have found the meaning of life with a tactic and it turns out to be useless.

I'm not going to guarantee my tactic will work for you, but I have taken Cisco Roma from Serie C2 to Serie A with Open Source Tactic. Look for the thread title with the name.

Forgot to add, I am doing this in holiday mode. No manual tweaking of any kind.
One thing you have to remember though is you need to add players and strengthen your squad every year. If you don't, your squad weakens and no one can save it.
