Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default Clarification of the Offside Rule

I was playing around with my tactics and I thought why not give it a go with my blackburn side. I played a 0-0-10 formation with max closing down and hard tackling with offside trap ticked. The aim was to get them offside and impose an attacking threat myself.

I was playing against Derby this one and I lost 15-2. Miller got 7 goals against my side. What I found astonishingly is that out of the 15 goals. Most of them were indeed offside, I might be wrong but the offside rule states that there must be at least a keeper and a defender between the ball player and the goal line for it to be onside but most of the goals were scored by clear clear offsides.

Therefore, either this game has a bug or I got my offside rule wrong, I will upload a pkm soon to show how each goal was scored. Derby got 20 offsides but it was more like 35 tbh. Hope someone gives me a clarification of this offside rule.

Do not have an opportunity to watch pkm now (I am at work), but here is the clarification. The offside rule states that there must be at least a keeper and a defender between the ball player and the goal line at the moment when ball passed to a player for it to be onside. Moreover, there is no offside if, at the moment of the pass, a player is on his own half of the pitch. That is, if a defender intercept ball and pass it forward, it does not matter where forward picks up the ball, what matters where he was when the def kicked the ball. Even he was one step on his own half - no offside.

I will try to take a look at the pkm later. But to be honest, even if you are right and there visually were offsides, I think what you are trying to do is find a hole in the code rather than play the game. So I am glad the game does not have this one.

Well, I watched the first 20 or so minutes of this and they weren't offside because they were on their side of the field when the ball was kicked. Also, some of them were because the ball was played backwards or sideways.

After watching the whole thing, they were also in offside position a couple times but it wasn't called because you can't be off side on a throw in.
