Given would like to be an Assistant Manager and Butt would like to be a coach.

Butt is now useless as a player and only gets a game for my reserve side, but won't hang his boots up yet, the stubborn old man. Personally, I think he'd make a good coach, but is there any way to tell beforehand?

Well I'll sign them once they retire as players anyway. Butt has played his heart out for Newcastle and I've loved Shay Given since I can remember, so I guess even if they're crap I'll sign them for nostalgia's sake.

If they get staff status, wait for them to retire before you sign them, as they'll ask for the same wage as when they were players and no one wants a £15,000/week coach.

Also, try putting their training schedule up to max and give them games with full closing down etc so they get badly injured and have to retire. I had the same situation with David James on my Pompey team and he wasn't going to retire until he broke his leg.
