Do you find that if you take over a really small club with no budget it is almost impossible to build a squad? I remember in older versions there were millions of free agents (and if we are talking realism here then it is realistic that 100's of players are available) ok most of them are rubbish, but they are out there.
I think part of the realism should be that you can e.g. place an advert for players and run 'trial days' and have your scouts report on the best of the bad bunch, allowing you to build a squad almost from scratch, with Free agent youth and other players.
And if i've been really stupid and have been searching wrong can someone help me on how to find UK based free agents available for LL teams.
I don't know what database size you pick but I found that there are always plenty of players. Especially the option to fill up your squad with grey players is great in comparison to earlier versions of the game.
No problem what so ever finding players early on. There are plenty of decent freebies sitting around doing nothing at the start of the game. Send your scout out looking he will find them. Actually at the start the players he finds are totally sh;t but they are better than the sh;t you have.
I have to agree with Cosmo-poof here too. The greys are a viable short term solution in this version and were very much welcomed in my Hungary save, certainly until you can get some freebies scouted and signed up.
