7th in Conference National (63pts), FA Cup First Round, FA Trophy Quarter-Final.
In a very tight league this year three defeats in our last five matches cost us a chance of making the play-offs but I can’t say I’m too sorry, the team I’ve got here aren’t ready for League football. We’re getting there though, for the first time ever we had no significant injuries and I could usually field something that looked like a full-strength side. My star defender is now 23 (24 over the close season) and he’s shown admirable loyalty, I accepted four offers for him over the season from League Two and One clubs and he turned them all down! The Irish kid we signed last year slotted in nicely as well and my two strikers continue to improve. The only significant buy of the season was a new goalkeeper, a 22-year old Englishman from a lower-division side who has played 17 times in League One earlier in his career.

The career of a virgin LLMer – the glory days (!) of Weston not-so-Super-Mare! Post #22
3rd in Conference National (84pts) (Promoted via Play-Offs), (FA Cup Final Qualifying Round, FA Trophy Semi-Final)
I’m really going to have to work on my players’ fitness, we led the Conference until late March but one win in six at the end of the season cost us automatic promotion. I finally lost my star Scotsman, he moved to a Championship club for £425,000 (that was his release clause) but he hadn’t had the best of seasons this time and his indiscipline cost us at times. The Welsh forward I signed in Season Four also left us, his contract was up at the end of this season so I was forced to accept a bid of £80,000 from the then-leaders of League One. We beat Scunthorpe 2-0 in the Play-Off Final to seal a place in the Football League for the first time in the club’s history but I’m going to have to spend what cash I’ve got wisely if we’re going to stay there – the club’s finances weren’t good before that big-money sale. I played my reserves in the Cups and several players impressed me in our run to the semis of the Trophy, in particular a 18-year old striker and a holding midfielder, also 18 – they’ll play in the first team next year.
