I don't mean this in a bad way, because I enjoyed this post immensely; but what are you talking about? I tried googling São Sebastião's Wooden-Sword militia and didn't find anything that seemed relevant.
Did you study History... oh i see.. the oficial one...
In the Cruzades age the Portuguese Emperor pick all the beggars of the country and send them to fight in jerusalem armed with wooden swords... He make them belive that a ancient portuguese leader, saint Sebastian was a messiah and that he would protect them from the heavens and make them win the war!
Never hear anything about the end of the story, but you can figure it out...
I beg apologise for the portupoof felows around... but this quotation was just needed on the post i mentioned it!
My biggest issue is figuring out where to play players and what their instructions should be.
Hi Acidix, welcome to the LLM forums. We don't do tipping, so I'll have to answer your question in a slightly different way.
For where to play your players, I would simply recommend trial & error. This is probably the closest to immitating real life. Just play a player where you *think* they will excel. If you're wrong, try moving him. Maybe you'll eventually find their best position for your team, maybe they're just crap.
While most of my players play in their natural positions, my star left winger is a natural AM C, and my very good backup left winger is a natural WB L. They weren't so hot in their natural roles - go figure. Every player is different. I like that, because it adds character to the game.
As for instructions, I'd recommend the following. Pick a formation. Use a pre-loaded tactic from the game, as it's the equivalent of a "standard tactic." Tweak as needed to suit your squad. Probably much safer than trying to hand-create one from scratch.

I agree with that if you are starting your tactical knowledge, but after a while you will change so mutch that your Saved Tactics will be your start point anyway...
Well, my only advice (without tipping) on the matter is never use the same tactic for every game.
If you want to see a lower club reaching the top the most important thing to worry is the tactics, and every oponent ask for a diferent outcast!
<slight threadjack>
You know, one of the things I love best about FM is the ability to easily switch tactics. I'm not sure if it was in FM05, the last one I played was CM03/04, and the saved tactics just were not as refined there. I just love having my 4-5 saved tactics easily available.
I wish it didn't have the annyoing in-match pause as it recalculates everything, but oh well. That would really speed up the game for me, and encourage me to change tactics more than once or twice per match. Also, it'd be really great if I could have a universal corner tactic. If I suddenly get a central midfielder who's great at banging in corners, I have to change all of my tactics to make sure he's in the right spot.

I didn't know about that and I have studied Portupoofish history during 5 years :eek:
