I've got plenty of money on my current save @ Sheff Wed and recently decided to splash the cash.

Firstly I spent £10.5m on a 27yo Finnish striker from Derby.

Record? 15 games, 0 goals, 1 assist, 6.93 average rating, out for 4 months after surgery.

Secondly I spent £10m on a 27yo Swedish striker from Nurnberg.

Record? 5 games, 0 goals, 1 assist, 7.00 average rating, out for 3 months after surgery.



Anyone else have any spectacular disasters in the transfer market?

I spent £11m on a Spanish striker in CM00/01, and he was injured in training the very next day...cruciate ligament for 12 months.

I did sign a striker for free who got injured for 2 months after playing 2 matches.
Shit happens.

I always seemed to buy people who were in dodgy nick on 01/02, to this day not getting a physio report before you buy makes me cring.

That is why I find it impossible to spend millions on players, even once I'm at a big club. Unless my transfer budget is approaching a ridiculously massive sum, I just can't justify spending something like £10m on a player.

I'm sure that I'm not alone in my inability to splash out the cash after years of struggling with obscure clubs that never have any money.

Seriously, I'm a fantastic cheapskate. I think my top player signing is for £5k. I've paid more to lure scouts over.

I remember forking out about £400k in LL Italy, easily my record signing, for a DC who looked the part and was averaging almost 8 in Serie C1. Started playing him in the Serie B I think he finished the season with an average of about 5.7.

Unfortuately I was too damn stubburn to drop my big signing, so perhaps on this occassion a cruciate injury would have been handy. Then again my team had a unique way of crushing the confidence of any DC who came near it, so it probably didn't matter.
