So after roughly 11 seasons I got Albion Rovers to Champions league. How thrilling, and what a cash spinner; got past Malmo FF pretty easily in 3rd knockout stage to make group stage. What do my wondering eyes behold? A group consisting of Milan, Barca, and Porto  Now I begin to wonder how badly morale is going to crash after I get hammered 6 times by these guys. My league form might be screwed. I kind of wish I hadn't gotten the CL after all

I took me 14 years to get there with Basingstoke. First year in the champions league we lost in the final. If you are good enough to qualify for it you are good enough to play in it. Oh and the money is great

But how do you know that those teams are good anymore. They may well be terrible and you could finish top of the group. Never let reputation put you off.
\Wanders away to have another read of "Positive Thinking for Morons"

In theory that sounds very nice But I have to consider that I play in the SPL and still have major issues dealing with Rangers and Celtic. I managed 2nd in the SPL and only beat an old firm team once along the way (and even then it was sheer luck; I was outplayed from wire to wire).
Aye Church, I love your optimism, and I really want to feel that myself, but I have to believe that if those teams are making the CL, then they can't be all that down on their luck (FWIW I have all the leagues they are in loaded, so they are fielding full squads and making lots of transfer moves etc.). I had a browse through their playing staff and it looks ugly. When my top man is on £6000/wk and my squad average is more around £2000/wk, just one of Milan's best costs more than my whole wage budget
It is starting to feel to me like a "cups suck arse" translated into "CL sucks arse" except that the money is better

Don't think about the names of your opponents as "giants", just approach and play the match like every other match.
Sure you'll probably get beaten, but the opponents can underestimate you and that's where you get the points.
I had the same when playing CL qualifiers for the 1st time in FM05. I hammered Valencia 3-0 in our home game, punishment for fielding their reserves. Too bad we lost the awaygame and went into the other European cup...

Ahh I hadn't thought of that: they might see me as a rubbish side and field the "B" team. Hope springs eternal

Then you have the issue that the b team could be better than you
