Swedish Cup: Nailbiting run ends in QF
First season in the big(ger) time. £100k TV money saves Enskede from liquidation but there's nothing for reinforcements. Reserve and youth teams are a novelty for me.
We start indifferently and flirt with the drop-zone for a while. Then my star striker finds his range: 18 goals in 22 starts is a new club record.
The Cup run is particularly amusing - an easy win the 2nd round followed by 3 successive penalty shootouts. We lose the 3rd.
A late flurry of wins pushes up into the top half of the table. Much to the consternation of the media, the delight of the board and, frankly, the amazement of the manager.
How far can we go on freebie transfers? I'll give it another season then consider jumping ship.
One thing to note: I'd pretty much given up on my scouts after the first couple of seasons. No matter what I asked for they stopped recommending anyone. I resorted to to sending them out after decent-looking players I encountered in league/cup games.
As soon as I was promoted they started recommending players again - even before I asked them for anything. And from the same leagues they'd been ignoring for the previous seasons.

This season's campaign kicks off with 3 hopeful loan signings, but wage demands price us out of all attempted transfers. A veteran GK is a dead loss and shipped back to his club before long. AM and S are more useful but don't match the full-timers through the season.
Nevertheless Enskede make a blistering start and sit 1st after 10 games. However we don't have the strength in depth of other teams and gradually slide as the season unfolds. We score ok but the defence is flakey.
Attempts to buy in quality replacements fail as we can't match 1st div wages. Our only hope of making a dent in the overdraft disappears when we crash out of the Cup. So when the manager of 1st placed Gefle is poached by a Premier Div team the temptation's too much to resist. Money talks - and £170k of spending cash is pretty loud.
6 points clear at the top with 8 games to play. Surely I can't blow this one?
