Sweden - 2022 World Cup

Group stage: 2nd (beat Ghana 3-1; beat USA 4-1; lost to Portugal 1-2)
2nd rnd: Beat Uruguay 3-1
QF: Lost to Croatia 0-0 (3-4 pens)
Final: Germany 2-1 Croatia

We do pretty well in the World Cup in spite of injuries to key players. After a tight game with few chances we lose in the QF to the eventual runners up, Croatia.

It's really annoying that the best striker in the Premier League is Swedish - worth £16m+. Unfortunately he obviously has a recurring injury which needs rehab, but his manager is too fecking stupid to get it fixed. As a result he never plays more than a few games in a row, and he's never fit for international duty. Sort it out FFS!

Ahem. That would be the FA Cup, obviously. Neither Gillingham nor Luton have yet graced the CL with their silky skills.

Ha! My star Italian left back - also poached from AIK - agitated for a moved because he wants to 'play for a big team and win silverware', or something like that. So he's over the moon when his min release clause is triggered by... the mighty Cardiff!

A step up? In fecking Wales??? He'll be back. THEY'LL ALL COME CRAWLING BACK

Cardiff bashing aside, it's a valid point though. If the player's stated goal is to win silverware, he's got to be looking at one of the top 10 clubs, frankly. Half the Prem teams can't even offer a realistic shot at silverware.

Yeah I may have been a bit harsh on Cardiff I concede they may be a small step up from Gillingham. It's just if a good player demands a transfer to chase dreams of fortune and glory then I would expect them to turn down similarly ranked teams in favour of the big boys.

They'll pick up the FAW Premier Cup most seasons.

Gillingham - 2022/2023 - English Premiership

P38 W21 D5 L12 F60 A36 P68 - Pos 5th
League Cup: 2nd rnd lost 0-3 to Peterborough /o\
FA Cup: 3rd rnd lost 0-2 to Charlton

Plenty of wheeling and dealing in the off season sees 9 players in for £8.75m. It's nice to finally have some real money to play with. A ruthless cull of the old Gills squad results in 14 players shipped out, mostly on free transfers.

The new-look squad gels nicely and despite the usual midwinter slump we secure an excellent 5th spot. On the other hand the cups are a complete disaster as we crash out at the first hurdle, even though I played a strong side for both competitions. Unfortunately the good league position doesn't stop some of our senior players angling for transfers - notably our best DC who joins Man Utd for £7m.

EPL champions: Liverpool
Champions League: Milan
UEFA Cup: Udinese
