It's worse than that. There's a bug in my game that puts the little (p) by the wrong team's name on the match summary screen after penalties.

So when I came back with my tea I thought I'd won and nearly dumped it over the dog. Then I remembered the bug.

I have a superstition that I never watch the draw for any cup competitions. That's not a problem in FM as cups suck arse of course.

Sweden - 2020 European Championships

1st round:
Beat Wales 2-1 \o/
Lose to France 1-2
Beat Turkey 2-0 to finish top of the group

QF: Beat Bulgaria 2-0
Semi: Lose to Denmark 1-2
Final; Denmark 0p-0 Germany

Aik - 2020/2021 - Swedish Premier div

P26 W16 D6 L4 F46 A14 P54 - Pos 1st
Swedish Cup: winners (4-0 over GIF Sundsvall)
Champs Lge: QF losers to Besiktas (2-4 agg)
Royal League: Winners (3-0 over AaB)

In the end I decided to stick with AIK for one last season. A few of the senior players have had enough and demand transfers to bigger leagues. I decide to let them go and focus on bringing some youngsters through from the reserves.

Results are mixed. The league title is retained, but with a reduced points total. Injuries are more of a problem this term, especially in the Champions League where a patched up first team suffer a 3-0 away drubbing at Besiktas to overturn a 2-1 advantage from the first leg.

I played a few games of the 2021/2 term to keep myself amused while waiting for the EPL season to wrap up. Finally in mid-July I submit my resignation and jump on the next Ryanair flight out of Stockholm.

Happy New Year, Llamas

I have joined newly promoted Gillingham in the English Premier League. No youth team; no reserve squad; only 15 crap first team players. Difficult to see how promotion was achieved. Anyway I've got about a month before the season kicks off to scout and sign enough quality to keep us up.

Fantastic work and an enjoyable read!!! I found the 1-0 penalty shootout very amusing.

I'd just like to ask from those more experienced what happens if you relegate a team to a division that is unplayable, i.e. Gillingham (not doubting your managerial abilities, Nokem) to the Championship on this save game? Do you hand in your notice with a gun held to your head, sacked...?

Indeed I would be out on my backside before you could say 'Graeme Souness'. And given the perilous state of the club at the moment I rate my chances at about 50/50 (so better than the Newcastle boss ).

Aye. Relegation to an unplayable league results in an automatic sacking when the game updates. The board can still be delighted with you, btw (if they wanted a brave battle and you delivered one, albeit failing to stay up, for example), but you just get released anyway. I actually find that to be worse than failing abysmally and the board sacking you for poor performance.

Gillingham - 2021/2022 - English Premiership

P38 W13 D9 L16 F41 A45 P48 - Pos 12th
League Cup: 3rd rnd lost 1-1p to Spurs
Champs Lge: 4th rnd lost 1-3 to Luton

The Gills are in a mess. The first squad is paper-thin and there are no reserves or youth teamers to call on. With only a couple of weeks to sign backup my first move is back to Sweden to raid the AIK reserves. Not much transfer kitty to play with, so I pick up some cheap reserves and lure a few senior players to join for free when their contracts expire in December.

It's just as well - by December we're mired in a relegation battle. AIK's top scorer and best centre back - and a couple of Eastern European bargain binners - help us put together a late run to finish 10 pts clear of the drop.

EPL champions: Chelsea by a mile. Some things never change
Champions League: Werder Bremen
UEFA Cup: Real Madrid
