Default Swede(n) or Turnip?

2006 – Soderhamn – Div 2 Norrland – Sweden

Board Expectation – Battle against relegation
Transfer Budget – eu 5k
Wage Budget – eu 12.5k

No cup action this season as Swedish cup is by invitation for the LL clubs dependent on previous season finish.

6 Regional 2nd divisions of 12 teams each – Champions promoted – Bottom 2 relegated – next team into relegation playoff vs a 3rd Division runner up

So beginning with 2 home games gives a promising win and draw followed by 5 defeats. Wage bill looking crippling even though within budget as we are only playing in front of crowds of 150 – 200!! A change of formation yields 4 wins and 2 draws resulting in an offer of a 3 year contract but for eu 100 less a month! Reluctantly I accept. Mixed results to the end of the season including one 2-0 defeat where the opposition GK comes forward to take a free kick on the edge of my area and screams it into the top corner !?*@.

Finish 8th P22 W8 D4 L10 F26 A31 GD –5 Avg Attendance 187
Fans Player of Year – Mr ‘Creative but Disappointing’

Players In 4 for eu 0 including a AMLC/FC from non-league who we will refer to as ‘The Fridge’
Players Out2 for eu 0 and a MC on a Bosman (Grrrrrr!) who was the top rated player in the division this season and had 9 MOM awards

2007 – Soderhamn – Div 2 Norrland – Sweden

Board Expectation - Battle against relegation
Transfer budget – eu 0
Wage Budget – eu 15k

Pre season 2 players out 2 players in and 3 good kids in on season long loans from a Superettn (Championship equivalent) side we played in a pre-season friendly.

No cup action again so no money spinning top sides visiting – NO cups sucks a***.

What a start to the season – not. 2 wins in first 12 games mean relegation is creeping up on us but at least ‘The Fridge’ is scoring regularly until he suffers a fractured skull. Luckily there are 2 worse teams than us. Loan ST starts to bang in goals and loan MC starts getting MOM’s but on last game of season we need a point to avoid automatic relegation. We get it but that means the dreaded playoffs. So it’s home and away vs a 3rd Div runner up. 1-1 at their place so back to our ground in front of 1594 fans!! (car crash mentality or what – where have they been all season?) ‘The Fridge’ just makes it back from his injury in time to open the scoring, with another soon after from loan MC securing Div 2 football for another season.

Finish 10th P22 W4 D5 L13 F23 A36 GD-13 Pts 17Avg Attendance 177
Fans Player of the Year – Mr ‘Reserve Striker who scores occasionally’??

Players In 2 for eu 0 + 3 season long loans
Players Out7 for eu 4k including a DRC who played 1 game this season and 1 game last season and was sent off in both

Finances are now very poor losing eu 25k a month but the board keep paying wages and signing new contracts – It will all end in
tears (Yorkshire club who play in white and Irish Manager anyone?)

2008 update to follow tomorrow – I’m on work PC

Nah. You poofs got it easy with cancellation of promotion playoffs

I played there when playoffs still were. Nothing better than owning the group the whole season and then lose in the promotion playoffs.

2008 – Soderhamn – Div 2 Norrland – Sweden

Board Expectation – Battle against relegation
Transfer budget – eu 0k
Wage Budget – eu 16k

Pre season signed a coach who I immediately promoted to Ass Man (terminating original Ass Man’s contract as he would not drop down to coach). Signed 2 16 year olds (greys) and a much needed SW/DC from non-league and secured last years loan ST for a further season (they would not let me have the MC as well as they realised he was actually very good). With 3 players leaving, the Squad now numbers just 19 including a 3rd GK and the 2 16 year olds.

Yet again no cup action!!

Actually we benefit from a small squad and due to this have to play a settled side, a change of tactical philosophy also yields results as we win 6 of the first 9 games. Then follows fixture list madness – 7 away games in the next 10 which kills off any chance of a title push but sees us sitting in the top half. ‘The Fridge’ has been outstanding this season leading the team on goals scored (2nd in the Division), assists and MOM’s (dips in results can be linked to his and Mr ‘Creative but Disappointing’s absences). The improved position and more attractive football seems to have induced some more people to watch as we now play in front of 300+ each week. The season ends in a comfortable 5th place.

Fans Player of the Year – ‘The Fridge’

Finances – Now over eu 600k in debt but board do not seem worried!!

2009 – Soderhamn – Div 2 Norrland – Sweden

Board Expectation – Battle against relegation
Transfer Budget – eu 0k
Wage Budget – eu 16k

Pre season 6 players in – 5 on frees and 1 from the youth academy including a AML released by a Superetten (Championship) side and a young DM released by a Allsvenkanliga (Premiership) side.

No cup action again!! Hang on? Teams finishing lower than me and N/League are in the cup – so why am I not invited to take part!?

First half of season proved to be consistently inconsistent failing to win 2 in a row in 16 games but 4 wins and a draw in the next 5 meant that going into the last game we could finish 4th with a win – we lost and therefore finished 7th. OSK Ungdom win the Div for the 3rd season running, this time winning every game, but cannot be promoted as they are Orebro’s reserve team so finishing second at present brings promotion in this division. ‘The Fridge’ was 3rd top scorer in the Div and broke season goals scored and assists records for the club. ‘No2 Striker’ was 4th top scorer in the Div so I think next season I must concentrate on getting a GK and Defenders. At least I managed to get a couple of scouts to help out.

Finish 7th P22 W9 D3 L10 F38 A45 GD –7 Avg Attendance 199
Fans Player of Year – ‘The Fridge’

Players In 8 for eu 0
Players Out4 for eu 0

Finances – Board injected eu 250k but we are still eu 700k in debt and I was offered a new 3 yr contract and managed to negotiate a 100eu per month pay rise but in return I must trim the current wage bill by eu 4k as I was eu 7k over budget.

2010 - Soderhamn - Div 2 Norrland - Sweden

Board Expectation - Battle against relegation
Transfer Budget - eu 0k
Wage Budget - eu 19k

Pre season 1 player in - a young DC - Assistant Manager left to take up a manager position

It goes without saying - No cup action.

Reasonable start to the season meant that at mid point of the season about 7 clubs including ourselves fancied promotion as OSK Ungdom were running away with the league again. Then disaster struck a mood of gloom came over the club and we gained 1 win and 2 draws in the last 11, meaning bottom and relegation. I therefore did the honourable thing and resigned so am now eagerly job hunting in the lower leagues of Scandanavia. Watch this space

Finish 12th P22 W6 D3 L113

Players In 1 for eu 0
Players Out0 for eu 0

Finances - Board were keeping club afloat with cash injections but no money to spend for 5 seasons was our eventual undoing.

With that kind of form, I'd have resigned long ago tbh.
