Let me start by saying that I have played the CM/FM series since it started so consider myself a good judge of the game.
I have played the game since xmas with the patch ( i did not bother playing the unpatched version) and these are the things I have noticed:
Problems I have experienced:
The number of bookings and sending offs within the first 10 minutes of the game are very unrealistic. In one game, i have two bookings and a sending off in the first 10 minutes and it also happens to my opponents as well. All well and good but not realistic.
The amount of shots directly at the GK are crazy - far too many.
Players dallying on the ball too much and then losing possesion. I was led to believe that this was supposed to be fixed in patch 8.01
1 on 1 conversion rates are truely rediculous. I would say that for every 10 1 on 1 attempts only 1 gets converted. This is far too low.
Superhuman GK's - it seems that every game I play the GK is superman. Totally unrealistic.
GK parries - I have noticed that when my GK parries a ball it will 9/10 times fall to the opposition, however, when the opposition GK parries the ball, 9/10 times it goes to their players!
Large periods of the game there is no action - I have my game on Key commentary and have noticed that much of the game goes by without any action. Compared to FM07 this does not seem right.
Good things:
I like the matchday experience and the milestones.
I like being able to reject offers without having to go and view the offer first - this was very annoying in previous versions.
Weird signings:
Adrian Mutu re-signing for Chelsea for £16 million!!
Overall, I am finding the game hard to play and frustrating. I never had any such issues with the previous versions so I am dissapointed with this version.
FYI - I am playing as Liverpool and am using the same tactics that I have used on the last 2 versions of the game with great success. I am 8th with 3 wins, 3 draws and 2 loses - most of my wins have been down to being awarded penalties!
"Large periods of the game there is no action" - watch a full match once, and you'll see why. The opposition defenders are just passing the ball between themselves, and your players just stand and watch.
If you use a DMC, then you'll also see how often he holds up the ball and loses it for no good reason.
