I think one of the weakest things in FM08 and before, but hardly get mentioned is 'Apply for job'. Well it does get mentioned, most notably by people who say that they've won everything possible in, say, England, but when applying for a midtable Serie B team, they get turned down and instead that club picks some random crap guy! Also, I've seen it on my games when even applying for a job within the nation you are playing, some unknown with terrible stats still gets picked over you even though you stated as the favourite for the job!
Now I think 2 things can be revamped here, one I'd imagine a lot easier than the other. Let's start with the harder of the 2, an interview.
I don't mean you have to nip to Burtons and find the best oversized £99 suit you can find. Just a question or 2 when you apply and are lucky enough for an interview. Something along the lines of, 'what are your ambitions for the club? What can you achieve with this current squad?' Something along those lines, just so you can get a feel for the club and the chairman knows what kind of manager you are.
Possibly the easier of the 2 is feedback. At the moment, you apply for the job and then up pops and message 'Jon McJockstrap has taken over at Arsenal' even though you've torn apart for EPL with Weymouth and Arsenal are battling against mid-table obsurity!!! Atleast tell us why Jon got the job, more experience in this league, more to please the fans, has close connections with Arsenal.
Personally I feel applying for another job could be made so much more realistic and interesting. It is part of being a 'Football Manager' so why not pop it in the game?
It can't be that hard because it was an aspect of one of the games on XBOX. You had an interview with3 or 4 questions e.g. ambitions for the club, what you thought of the current group of players and if you thought additions would be needed.
You soon learnt what answers worked best because on my first attempt I was unsuccesfull because of my interview rather than my reputation.
Good point about it being similar to media questions, didn't even think of that!
With regards the X-Box game that had a similar lay-out, was unaware this function had been used before. But on PC I suppose you could have more codes written in than the X-Box so every club could be different depending not only on reputation but also on how they are currently doing in the league. Hopefully this would make the user unable to 'crack' the interview so to speak. Similar to tactics in a wierd way, you must approach every interview on it's own merits.
C'mon SI, you know it's a good idea!
Would any of the SI guys comment on whther this has been tried before or why it's not been implemented yet?

Nice idea, but I think those interviews shouldn't be that "strict". It makes a stupid guessing game if chairman wants to ie build up a team which is fighting for a upper table finish in a few years and you after looking team's awful players are carefully suggesting you'd keep the team from relegating, and you would only leave without a job as you're thinking would differ from AI's because it has no idea of what you are thinking. That's the problem in many other cases too, but nevermind.
In real world people are able to negotiate, so I don't see sense adding "win or lose" aspect to the interviews. That way there was no need to crack anything. Besides, I think people who are called for a job interview are firstly qualified options to chairman. So he could choose every one of them. After that it's a matter of who can agree with chairman's or whoever's views and maybe adjust to them. Those contenders who are thinking differently and maybe badly according to the chairman and are not willing to change their style are simply not getting the job.

There is nothing wrong here. A Serie B team cannot afford to pay the wages of someone who won everything.
Sorry, not sure how to quote from other posts but with regards to afterdarks comment about not affording the compo package for a world beater. Was just using that as an example, I'm sure there are plenty of threads on here where the poster has sometimes quit their job and still not able to get one in another country, but that's a whole new debate.
