Right, here is my predicament... I bought the game yesterday (Dec 27th), and was all excited to have finally bought it! So I got home after cueing up for 30 mins in Game to buy it, installed it, and it all seemed fine! Until...

Crash #1
Went to 'Start New Game' - selected several leagues as i've never had problmes with this with the past FM's i'v had before. All great! Until it starts to creat manager shortlists... then, my laptop just turns off completely... ^$^$*%$)*
So, I think "Hmmm, maybe it's my graphics card, the drivers may need updating" - so I do exactly that, and try again... but alas...

Crash #2
THis time, I decide i'll just stick with playing in only the English Leagues, just so if it's going to crash, I won't have waited as long for it to start in the first place. But this time, I actually get to create a manager!!! Take over Middlesbrough, and get to my first match against Darlo. Winning 3-0 at about 70 mins, and again... Laptop just goes completely off.... $^($$$$$ $£$&()*%.
"Right" I think, "I'll uninstall the game, REinstall it, AND download the 8.0.1 patch, that should do it!"... But no...

Crash #3
Similar to number 2, only this time, i'm 0-0 with CSKA at about 84 mins, and it cuts out again...

WHAT IS GOING ON!!! I've played FM ever since it was born! Why is it that it is only now going wrong with me? I've played FM07 on the exact same system for the past year with no problems, and my laptop far supasses the requirements of the games - so WHY CAN'T I JUST PLAY!!!!

Any suggestions as to what might be wrong? At one point today I even considered buying the new CM coz of all the trouble... but I like my games to have an element of fun ;-)

It sounds more like a problem with your laptop than with FM to be honest if it keeps turning off.

Do you only get this problem when playing FM?

Yes, I do mean FM08, obviously :-p - I blame the anger...

Anyways, yeah Keify, it ONLY happens with FM... that's what's so irritating about it. My laptop on a whole runs perfectly, but FM crashes out...

I'm guessing it's something to do with my graphics card considering it seems to ahppen in matches - but how would that explain the first crash?

It could possibly be an overheating issue?
My computer goes into 'over-drive' during matches and loading a save/starting a new.

The only reason my computer has ever turned off on its own accord has been when its overheated.
Which funnily enough.. happend whilst i was playing FM07. Cant recall it overheating at any other time than on FM actually.

I just opened it up and cleaned out the dust and it was fine, but if you have a laptop you shouldnt really need to.. so your fan might be starting to pack in abit.
How old is your laptop?

Yeah it could be overheating or maybe even running out of memory (RAM and Virtual memory)

Right... checked the fans, and found that the middle of the three had stopped, so phoned up HP, and they told me to download the BIOS file frm the site and flash the BIOS. So I did, and, great! Fan started working! So booted up the game, started a new game, and it crashed... again!

So it's probably something wrong with the BIOS in my system... although i've had no problems with it before, that seems to be the case now. Think i'm going to save all my files onto my external hard-drive and start from scratch with the laptop, and if that doesn't sort it... well... looks like i'll have to send it back to HP :-(

Play the game in windowed mode and use a free utility such as speedfan to monitor the temperature of your cpu as you play.

Try and play with the laptop on a hard surface rather than on your lap or a cushion.

This happened to me a few months ago, so I took (mayzie's?) advice and cleaned out my computer with a hoover. Silly as it might sound, it cleaned away all the dust and works beautifully now!
