I have spent my (limited) christmas time off taking Liverpool through their first 3 seasons season on the game. After spending 2 years building my own team ready fro a proper title challenge in the 3rd yr. Gutted only to finish a disappointing 10th including a superb 13 games without a win streak. Given the players I had recruited I was convinced the game was flawed and set about trying to prove this to myself by reloading my save game and allowing my ass man (Baresi) to manage the season whist I sunned myself on holiday.

Imagine my horror when I return from holiday to find that my "mate" franco had won the premier (by 10 pts) and the champions league to boot. With MY players.

Its official i'm a cr*p manager.

Sorry for the rant.... had to get it off my chest - my bird doesn't seem that interested. She told me to get a life and go to the tactics forum

It it's any consolation I am equally as crap. For some reason I can't get Leeds out of Div1 even though I have the best squad and a great tactic.

Even though on FM07 I won everything, this version seems random.

At least you're not blaming the game. Reading recent posts, most people who are losing come on here and say "This game is broken! Crap! I can't win!"

Nah, the game is cool (apart from a few bugs which are annoying).

I'm just used to doing amazingly well, fm08 is more challenging.

I'm rubbish too.
I've been playing this constantly since it came out, and I have never won the champs league final. Only got there 4 times and that's in approx 30 seasons.
My Christmas Day was ruined as well with a board takeover and then I was sacked!!!

If its any consolation, I have only won the ECL once in over twelve years of playing CM/FM.

I've always had a good CL record in previous FM games, I just find my team goes to pieces in most cup games in FM2008
Yesterday, I won 7 league games on the trot, let in about 2 goals, scored loads. That included beating Newcastle 3-1 at home then lost 5-0 at home to them in the Champ League QF 2 games later!

Hmm fair enough, I haven't really played fM2008 that much since I got it.

A few hrs with Forest ..

Narrow pitch, 6ft defenders, deep defensive line and long ball.



I'll no doubt be back whinging about cup competitions in a few days ..

I've been playing around the same length of time and never won the Champions League. I've won many UEFA cups, countless League titles and cups around Europe, even the European Championships but I've never gotten past the quarter finals of the Champions League.
I do start all my games with a team from the bottom division of the English or Scottish leagues though.
