Is there a reason why SI still won´t (at least in reality) use the entire rating scale from 1 to 10 in matches? Usually it´s 6-8 and often a 9 if a striker scored twice. In real-life player ratings (in papers) you get anything from 2 to 9. And sometimes a team won´t get anything higher than 5 or 6. The rating scale should mirror this more accurately.
Have a look at how player ratings are done in serious newspapers. You'll often see 3s and 4s given. It's a matter of using the entire rating chart. In all fairness I don't think SI ever used the entire chart. And it's at the very least something they should have a look at.
correct, if he gets a 5, you have every reason to be mad at him. whereas he has to do a lot of monkey business to get a lower rating. in fm05 if he's played (slightly) out of position, he wouldnt get more than a 4. glad that's over with.
In the newspapers here, I only saw one 10 given in my entire life, that was Mario Mandzukic when he scored against Ajax twice. But that was given mostly because that his goals allowed Dinamo to progress to the UEFA Cup group stage.
Also I saw 2 1s given, both in the European Championship game France vs. Croatia, Tudor got one for scoring an own goal and making a mistake that lead to the second and Mornar got a 1 because he missed a sitter in the 93rd minute
A hat trick hero will probably get between a 8 and 9 while a total miss of a player will get 4 or 5 unless the team lost with a two digit scoreline.
To summarize, I believe the ratings in FM 08 are the closest to reality out of all FMs so far.
P.S. While I was in England I didn't saw less then 5 been given away, and a 5 was rare.
The most realistic match ratings, well ones that were most spread, was ironically CM1, but after that SI have used the ludicrous system we have now, which doesn't tell you anything, as every player is nearly always within a point.
