anyone got a tactical idea for managing england Post #2
I screwed up my United save file so I started an England one; I played a 4-3-3 like I always did, with 1 DM, 2 MC, AMR+AML and ST. Most of the time it was the flat back 4, Hargreaves holding midfield, Gerrard and Beckham in centre because Gerrard and Lampard often steal each other's chances in long shots and screw it up, and on the wings would be Rooney paired with Joe Cole or someone, and the ST of course, Owen.

well what i did was played an attacking 4-4-2 diamond, bought back becks and set him as playmaker and played rooney upfront with crouch as my targetman, played gerrard as my midfield anchor (its one of his positions check) and played lampard behind the strikers, with this style of play you score for fun but do tend to conceed some sloppy goals....give it a try and let me know how you get on

The most succesful tactic i've found for England is 5-2-3 with wingbacks, the CM's staying back to pass the ball back in, and the wide forwards running from deep from the wings. Is excellent defensively, a bit weak in the middle of the park which is easily compensated by the wingbacks and the wide forwards allowing for linkup plays. You never get caught on the counter, which is a major problem on FM. Amazingly Dyer was my star player (I only picked him to replace an injured player) and he played both at RWB and RF. Ashley Cole at LWB set up loads of goals. Gerrard at RWB also worked well, with Lampard and Beckham as CM's. Ledley King's aerial strength at the centre of the back 3 proved very useful, with the other two DC's man marking the opposition strikers. Wide forwards track back when opposition full backs go forward, and otherwise leave a good opportunity to counter attack.
