It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Some tutors are just arseholes. You'll very rarely get anything out of them, unfortunately.

Apparently, I have a fairly loyal squad, so perhaps my players are a little more friendly and willing to listen to me?

I believe most people are the opposite way around.

The 3 options are
"Can learn from [Player]"
"would benefit by adopting [Player]'s approach to the game"
"See [Player] as the ideal role model for [Player]"

I believe the first one is PPM only, 2nd is mental traits only, 3rd is both.

Which option are you using? I have also read 1 is easier to achieve than 2 and that 3 is the hardest.

Mille you have had success with increasing the determination of your players. Have you had any other visible traits change as a result of tutoring.

I'm specifically interested in the following:

[Visible]
Determination - Confirmed by Millie.
Eccentricity(GK) - Unlikely
Aggression
Bravery
Influence

[Hidden]
Ambition
Controversy
Loyalty
Pressure
Proffessionalism
Sportmanship
Temperament

Right ive just done an experiment with one of my youth strikers and Chris Iwelumo.

I signed Iwelumo because he had a determination of 20 + he also has several PPM's.

Tim Kelly is just a decent young player nothing special. I would have released him if not for this experiment.

After about 1 month a message came up saying that Kelly learns little for Iwelumo sighting there different personalities as the main cause.

I reloaded my save and the message did not appear. They continue to be linked.

I used FMM2.12 to sneak a peak under the hood to see what was going on.

Iwelumo Kelly(Before) Kelly(After) Diff(Before) Change
Adaptibility 10 12 11 -2 -1
Ambition 16 14 15 +2 +1
Loyalty 12 18 18 -6 NC
Pressure 6 7 6 -1 -1
Professional 11 7 8 +4 +1
Sportsmanship 10 17 17 -7 NC
Temperament 15 13 14 +2 +1
Controversy 6 2 3 +4 +1
Determination 20 10 10 +10 NC

Also Kelly had gained Iwelumo's Play with back to goal PPM. This was all in the first month.

Notice that all stats that changed are closer to the mentors stats. Those that were two far way did not change.

This has shown that the stats change overtime and not just when tutoring finishes.

Use [code ] and put your table in how you'd wish it to be viewed, followed by [/code ] at the end - obviously closing the brackets up without the space I added so you could see. If it comes out wonky, I'll look a right mug...

I've found that the good relationships isn't an accurate indicator in their quest for knowledge, if you like. It only affects their happiness. My young strike felt he could learn from Delgado, so I had Delgado tutor him, and although he said he was unsure, he's happy to being tutored by Delgado.

Add to that, a young defender of mine thinks he can learn from Darren Bent - a player who wouldn't be available from the drop down list of potential tutors.

Thanks for that Acoustic

So good relationships is possibly a red herring, what about "similar type of player to"

I am also theorising that the max difference between tutor and apprentice should be no greater than 5. However this is no good as we cannot see these stats in game.

Not noticed the others since I don't use scouting tools, so I'm a bit stuck on that one. I only ever "personality" tutor for determination, and just go for the PPM option otherwise.

Interestingly, I managed to get a player to lower his determination, and then had to tutor him again to get it back up!

Anyone else got anything to input.

Is it better to get PPM first and get a player on their favorite list first and then try mental after?

I've found that the "similar to so-and-so", or "feels that he could learn off so-and-so" doesn't make a difference. I had multiple people (Sami Hyypia, Luis Figo) tutoring youngsters who thought they could learn of them, had similar playing styles and positions, and I still got a message after a couple of months saying that it was a waste of time and they weren't learning anything. As if someone learning of Figo or Hyypia wouldn't be able to learn anything from them!
