Having given up the ghost yet again with an attempt to start a career game on 07, i still found that i was'nt ready to trash the game as i often threaten, so after trying and failing with the latest tactic uploads, i thought i should take a look back to when i last enjoyed the game.
That came in the form of 06 and a 4-3-3 tactic that i put together myself, with which i was able to enjoy the game at an acceptable level.
I did make an early attempt to rework the tactic for 07 with disasterous consequences, but with a little more hindsight now as to what works and what does'nt, i think i may have begun to turn a corner in the hope of making this tactic usable again?.
The 433 as it was, was exceptional in attack whilst susceptible at the back, as it was based on getting as many as 8 players forward in a bid to put as much pressure as possible on the opposition defence in an attempt to flood the attacking areas and force the opposition into making mistakes with the heavy regard to closing down.
In 07 this simply does'nt work in the same context. The AI has improved enormously defensively and from my players point of view they were making mistake after mistake and letting the opposition create chances for themselves with all the loose balls.
I thought if i could make this tactic work defensively, then there should be ways of improving it in an attacking sense along the way, as it is still a very attacking set-up with the three most forward players all being strikers!.
Before watching my first game, i made a number of tweaks which included dropping the d-line, losing the farrows and barrows etc, closing down, width, tempo and a few other minor alterations that i thought nessasary.
Having played and watched three games in their entirety, i have found that defensively the tactic has improved in leaps and bounds, whilst in an attacking sense it has sadly lost a lot of its effectiveness.
I can actually see with my own eyes whilst watching the games why this is the case, but have yet to make the required tweaks due to a lack of understanding of just how to tweak accordingly?.
The main obstacle is that my forwards are not getting on the end of through balls and cross's, Ashton who is strong in the air is lucky to win one header during a game. My full backs are managing some beautiful 30-40 yard through balls and crosses, yet my strikers are either miscontrolling and knocking the ball out of play, or they simply seem disinterested in going after the ball?. In fact all in all, i'm finding it difficult to get the strikers into the game. Even Tevez with the ball at his feet is struggling to take on even the worst defenders and this is where my knowledge of the game(FM not RL) falls down.
I'd really love to see this tactic working well again, so if any of you can find the time to take a look at it in its current state and come up with idea's as to how it can be improved, i'd very much appreciate it!.
I've resigned myself to the fact that i'm never going to get the same kick out of this game as i have in the past and 07 will probably be my final purchase of the series, but i'd still love to grasp just one ounce of enjoyment from this release, before i finally retire and reminisce about my past glories!.
