As an American, I am thankful every day for the French. If not for the French, then there would have been no Enlightenment. Without the Enlightenment, then there would not have been revolutionary fervor across Europe and democratic political philosophy that informed and inspired early American thinkers. And, without those things, then we all might still be living under monarchies like the Saudis. :thdn:
