My story of the Derbyshire Dales - hopefully it has not double posted
Well I am back and after much slaving finally understand the rules.
After a quick visit to Frank he decided to let me manage Conference North team Alfreton Town. I was quite surprosed when I arrived to see that they actually had almost a full squad, but no staff except for a physio that would inspire as much confidence as Harold Shipman. Oh and no tranfers funds
2005-2006
For my first move I decided to put an advert in the paper to find someone to help me run the club. This I think was my first mistake as everyone who answered to my ad was currently employed somewhere else and having no current funds,I could not afford to compesate their clubs!
Therefore I began my first season with a slight intrepidation that I would have to start my career alone and isolated. I did not even have a scout to send anywhere so was unable to sign anyone.
My team consisted of a bunch of aging misfits, which blended quite poorly with those yougsters that the squad deemed good enough to called 'promising'. My first season was better forgotten and I finished 10 points above the relegation places and a massive 43 points behind eventual winners Hucknall Town. Plus point from the season was that my 36 y/o DC became my assistant manager.
Fans player of the year was a 22 y/o/ S who finished with 17 goals.
2006-2007
Start of the second season and once again I was fundless, but this time and unemployed coach and scout applied to my adverts. The coach was happy to sign up with me and lead my team through the rigours of training. the scout however proved a different kettle of fish and refused to be lured to the utopia that is Alfreton. so yet again I was left to fight the battle with the same player that I had last term.
My second season progressed a little better and included a decent little run in the FA Cup, which was ended in the first round proper with a heavy 4-1 defeat to Darlinton My now 23 y/o S was setting the league alight and attracting attentions of clubs like Swansea and Brentford. They both came in for him and I was unable to stand in his way as both teams were willing to fork out my 250k asking price along with the promise of a friendly and 10% sell-on.
This was in January when I was sitting in a nice play-off place and hoping for better things next season, but I was unable to replace the lad and the season petered out into a better than average 9th place finish behind eventual winners Gainsborough.
2007-2008
The third season rolled round and armed with a massive £25k budget I was finally able to employ a scout, who I immediately packed off to scour England. Things had gone quite well during the pre-season with the friendly against Swansea going better than suspected and resulting in a full-house and increased anticipation for the coming year. My scout had reccommended a 22 y/o DC from Rushden (who had suffered back to back relegations) and a decent young FC who had been released from his current club.
The season began rather gloomily despite my optimism and at the end of October I was rock bottom and looking as though I would be joining the boys at the local job club. However, my scout had recently been sent over to the tropical climes of Belfast and had reported back with good news. He had found three player for me all of whoom he thought would make "an instant impact on the team" one was a talented keeper, fresh from and under 19 cap, and the other two were pacy (at least for my level) wingers with above average crossing. They arrived in January with me having pulled myself into 16 place although not as far from the play-off's as I had thought.
The second half of the season went a lot better and the signings that I had made began to combine with eachother. The young forward that I signed pre-season relished playing with two decent wingers and began to bang the goals in as I started to march up the table. Come the end of the year I needed a win in the last game of the season to go into the play-offs. And who did I have to play??? Yes the run-away champions Burton Albion who had humilated me twice already (3-0 at my place and 6-2 in the FA Trophy [cups suck ass]), was I confident...No. My no-confidence was well founded as we were hammered 5-1 to be handed yet another season of playing in the conference North.
On the plus point my FC scored 33 goals and was attracting higher interest and my GK was subject to bids from Leicester (I had the audacity to reject it) So I am heading into my forth season with hope that my scout can find some decent talent in Wales and that my newest batch of U18's can develop into something better than their predecesors.
Sorry if this is boring and long or wrong but I am trying.

Nice post - minor grumble though - I like the ones with the final league position, points etc laid out and number of players in/out - you know - that sort of thing.
Well done mate - let us know how the adventure continues.

Will take the advice on board and will change the format for next time. I must admit, I prefer them like that as well. A quick question regarding updates, can I now update after every season?
