also, i started 2 long threads on this in GQForum, lots of people said they thought it wasn't unrealistic
The threads were also about how i found it far too easy to sign good players. Marc Vauaghan commented on that saying that it is realistic for quality players to go to lower clubs in the twilight of their careers, although i really don't think this is true with the examples of top players going to lower leagues i've seen.
also when i posted it in the bugs forum i didn't get a reply

Signing players too easy once you go professional... Post #72
Do you still find yourself locked in a relegation battle when you do this?
depends on my team. i've found the only fully realistic way to play is to wait for the results of every game to happen irl so i know exactly what should happen. so in my current game of IFM06 i am top of the league with chelsea, although i just lost 1-0 to man utd
you can say IFM06 isn't fun, but it sure is realistic!

I've completed two seasons now, and just to see if there really is a problem with too high fees in my savegame, I checked the outgoing transfers of Conference North/South teams.
Highest fee was 150k.
It's funny that none of the regulars found this "bug" so far in their games.

Well I guess that you will just have to trust me that I did not (nor ever have) used the editor. The player was an existing player in the Basingstoke squad when I took over the side, nothing exceptional about him at all but he was good enough to play pretty much every week. He played central midfield and from memory his average rating for the year was a very good 7.25.
When I took over the squad I believe his value was around 5K, after the good year his value went to 35K and then I get a the bid for 450,000.
I had two main strikers, one was valued at 5K the other 35K, by the end of the season they were both valued at 300K. Now it is not like these guys were young. I think the midfielder was 25 and the strikers were 27 and 31 respectively.
So these guys have been playing for years suddenly I take over as manager and they are all superstars, worth 10 times more than they were before?

I could keep going with that save game but when this issue is resolved I know I will start another game from scratch so at the moment I am quite happy playing FM2006 as an arcade game. Playing Liverpool and finding that a 20 million budget really doesn’t get you a whole lot in football these days

You'd rather play as Pool than the lower leagues?
It's very easy to solve this 'problem'. Set an asking price to what you think is realistic. As long as bids are lower renegotiate to the asking price. If the come back you can decide to sell or not.

I'm still waiting to see what time I've got to up Sunday morning. It'll be very early over in the west. I've got to say, I'm ot overly confident at the moment.
Who hasn't been a chisel fan at some stage???? Can't say I listen to them regularly these days though.

Right. I've now sold a player, so can add something to the player price debate.
No real problems here
Had a good 23yo DC, would rather have kept him, but he was earning a fortune compared to much of my squad. I got an offer for him, at his stated value (16k). Not wanting to let him go cheap, I negotiated up the initial fee and added some installments and a sell-on (he is pretty good for this level). The closest to a problem I can see is that the buyers accepted that without hesitation, although I was asking what I though was a fair price, so maybe that's not a surprise. I'm not sure if they'd have offered silly money had I asked it, but the whole process was perfectly realistic to me.
I also had a bid for my keeper (co-ownership which I find to be a ludicrous practice) which I turned down flat (besides the fact we'll get relegated if we sell him). Again the offer was in line with his value.
