Frankly, Hogie, that's what I'd try. Decide what would I have taken realistically, and counter offer with it. Yes it's weird, but so's the initial bid and it means (hopefully) you can carry on with the game in an ethical fashion.
You didn't miss anything Michal. Offering players is waay better now. Your admin just "faxes the details to all clubs" and they let you know if anyone bites. You don't get all those rejection messages in your inbox. I got one "no-one's interested, boss" message
There appears to be an option to do it the old way with other humans, but the only real options you get in the offline version is the offer price and whether you want to exclude any rival clubs from the mass-mailing.
WRT signing players I had no problem signing loads of players using a huge DB, I think to get a realistic game where you can’t sign 50 freebies that are better than your current squad it looks like you have to use a smaller DB.
As for countering million pound bids with what I feel is realistic number I just feel that this takes the fun out of the game. Next if I am leading the league by christmas I will be playing my second team just so the other teams can catch up. Or should I stop training my players cause they are getting too good.
The most annoying thing is that I was really getting into the Basingstoke game, and got them promoted via the playoffs in the first season, miraculous comeack in the playoff semi final.(Excuse the bragging but 3-0 down after the away leg, beat them 3-0 at home and then do them on penalties … Get in there!! after selling the player the game just lost it’s gloss.

Maybe that's the case in England, but not Scotland. I'm playing with large DB, and am in desperate need of players ATM. Basically signing anybody willing to join just to have some kinda backup, even if they suck donkeynuts.

It could well be… I set it up with huge db and then clicked the option to import English players (found out from mkus I that this was a bad move). My scout was having a field day, admittedly this did put me off the Basingstoke game a bit too. I think I should have steered clear of the huge DB option and certainly not clicked the import English players.
When I next take over Basingstoke I think I will run….
6 English Divisions (Normal Details)
1 Italian (Basic Details)
1 Spanish (Basic Details)
1 German (Basic Details)
On a small DB / medium db
Anyone try something similar? How are you finding it, I would rather not wait until 2020 to find out that a small DB gives you nothing to sign later on in the game but why go for a larger DB is the small one is quicker and is “big enough for the game”
I don’t want to jump around jobs I just want to stay with Basingstoke until I either win the premier league or get sacked.

Just ask yourself what took more fun out of it. Sometimes cripling yourself in order to circumvent a bug in the game that makes it too easy is the best option. Admittedly it's not ideal and the bug shouldn't be there in the first place, but it's all about long-time fun and you just will have to resist the temptation to take advantage of the game and keep it realistic instead.

My scouting problems may of course be down to a club with virtually zero reputation so nobody watns to join. But I think starting with small and even medium database will ruin the game long-term.
As Dale says, just don't accept the high unrealistic bids. If the economy is okayish it's no problem saying no. Of course harder if you're in the red.

If clubs are buying players according to how these players perform (and not according to their PA), that's progress in my eyes.
the problem is that premiership and championshup clubs are spendign big money on players based on form in the conference and conference north/south!
i guess rejecting bids that are unrealistic is the only thing to do at the moment. it justs feels like you aren't really playing the game when you do that. i mean, if you look at everything the game does, and then decide whether to allow it because it's unrealistic or not, then what's the point in the game? the game isn't doing anything. i can just sit here and play imaginary football manager in my head if i want to do that.
