Default The History of the LLM Forum

This is something I have been working on for a while, and wanted to wait until my 4000th post to put it up but I may not make it to 4000 so up it goes now. Thanks to Iajafer for reading this over and to all of those who make the LLM forum great.
This is for those of you who are curious about the evolution of the forum over time, some of its more memorable moments and threads. I’ve gone through the archives and looked at almost every thread currently available on the board to try and put together a retrospective look at the evolution of LLM.
Some of the much older (and best) stuff has gone missing, so I’ll try and make due with what is left.
Warning: Some of the older threads will contain player naming, tactical tipping and off-topic banter.
The Spanish F LC
From time to time the topic of the super player comes up on the board usually when some plurk has come in and posted his current team’s achievements…occasionally someone will reference the “Spanish F LC”. Up until working on this I had no idea who the Spanish F LC was.
If you’re interested on the Spanish F LC, he is included in this team list while a couple people debate his accomplishments.
http://community.sigames.com/eve/for...217&m=38519769

Claret’s Peterhead Career
The first LLM thread to reach over 100 posts and full of some of the best off-topic banter you’ll find on the board. If only all update threads were this funny…
http://community.sigames.com/eve/for...m=00919529&p=1
The ]
Like most, I wondered where the ] came from. You can find it in the header, and in user’s froms. This is the thread where L9L first discovers the ]…a legend is born
http://community.sigames.com/eve/for...17&m=416192351
Drunk Management
Popularized by Piojoso, I was surprised to learn that Drunk Management was first proposed by Reb. KUTGWODM!
http://community.sigames.com/eve/for...17&m=577194601

River Plate
Remember a teacher in school telling you that the only dumb question is one you don’t ask? Well that’s wrong…this is a dumb question.

Quote:
quote:

Is River Plate rated as a lower league??? Coz' as far as I can see not many players play with this team. Or what??
Okay, there are placed in the best league, but does this automatically mean that they are not a lower league team??

You might have seen in the past that Gary-D = To55er. Here is a sampling of the best threads during his Temp Mod run.
Brody = To55er

http://community.sigames.com/eve/for...17&m=607192129
Nightharvest’s Career
This is probably regarded as the best managerial career in LLM’s history.
Check out the 2030-2040 results here:
http://community.sigames.com/eve/for...=320192313&p=1
The conclusion of the career is found here…
http://community.sigames.com/eve/for...17&m=793191547
Brody is a Poof
From its humble beginnings at the end of Iajafer’s post in an otherwise bland thread a legend was born. In here only for historical purposes…
http://community.sigames.com/eve/for...461#2831925461
The Official Guide to LL
Last year it was voted the best thread in forum history, and its creation split the hardliners. A must read, but it comes with a disclaimer that there is a large amount of tipping in it.
http://community.sigames.com/eve/for...17&m=427192743
Ask Zaq!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Two days after registering, cocky newbie enters LLM claiming to have all the answers. The Meet Up
Perhaps the legacy of the LLM meet up is the inclusion of “Fat Goalie” to the forum. I think most of the pictures are gone now, but if you want to see what the participants thought of the Big Day Out, check out this thread.
http://community.sigames.com/eve/for...7&m=6091917572
Dr. Nick’s Problem Page
A spin-off of the very lame Dr. Collyer problem page they had on the main website a while back.
http://community.sigames.com/eve/for...17&m=547191777
The Guide to Basque Teams
It was the one that started Project X, Rekwob’s excellent guide to the Basque teams. Check out the regulars attempting to get jobs on the team and keep your eyes open for Mr. Iceland’s intermittent updates on his team’s progress.
http://community.sigames.com/eve/for...7&m=5151901692
My Favourite Post
Of all the posts I’ve had a chance to read in preparing this one post seemed to sum up the LLM forum better than any other earning the distinct honour of being King Jeff’s favourite post.
Here’s the scenario:
Somebody had been complaining about the “light hearted off-topic banter” and “abuse” that was in so many threads saying it had been ruining the forum. L9L had this reply.

Quote:
quote:

well, you're right - this forum is more like OTF at times, but there's plenty of footy stuff in there and it's better than the dead forum that existed in the very recent past.
and theres nothing light hearted about the abuse

To me that’s what the LLM forum is all about.
I hope you enjoyed a brief look at the history of the forum, and although Iajafer has always insisted that every thread is hall of fame worthy to me this represents the best (and in some cases worst) the forum has to offer.

My question after reading that is when did the reign of the zealots begin? I noticed a lot of player naming and tipping in those old threads!

Without wishing to disparage the current crop of LLMers, the Forum is worse off without 9Lives, Brody and Double Dickie posting here - and BiB for that matter. From the guys that dragged the LLM Forum back like a Phoenix from the ashes there's probably only Evo, WingCo and myself still posting regularly.
Times change, things move on but reading the threads on Jeff's post brings back some nostalgic memories.
*Raises glass* "Absent friends!"

LoL A Wocko - Where's Zaq when you need him?
There were some very funny references in that thread, particularly regarding the number 42.
And the Doc's problem page was always a favourite of mine. Shame the Doc couldn't be arsed maintaining it, or perhaps it was boring everyone except me.

Many thanks King Jeff, as a newbie in LLM, reading some of those threads has been very enlightening.

And to those that have said the forum is worse off without your "absent friends", having seen some of their posts in the highlighted threads, I would agree. I had a really good laugh at Claret's Peterhead thread.

I just hope the newer posters on this forum realise the legacy left by those people mentioned earlier - I have.

KUTGW!

*raises coffee cup, and toasts those that rekindled the LLM forum, and keep it going today*
