SEASON 2020/21 English League Two- Lincoln City.
5 Players in £27K (+2 for 166K in June)
11 out for 925K (a further 3 to leave for 1.5M in June)
A great season for Lincoln City. Sitting on top of the League Two table at the halfway point, I decided to take some fiscally responsible action to reduce the wage bill, hopefully with the effect of being able to offer better wages to future signings before next season. I managed to reduce the wage bill by about £6K p/w to be just 2K over budget (which stands at 22K), stashing a healthy wad of cash into the bank in the process.
The loss of a couple of the better players did have an effect, and what would have been wins earlier in the season turned into draws. There was no major disaster however, and we ended up being comfortably promoted in second spot

. In a self-declared masterful display of man-management, I convinced my star GK that he really wanted to stay at the club by making him captain. This worked a treat for the next dozen or so games, before he started grumbling again about bigger clubs

. This was a bit of a theme throughout the squad, so we shall see if they are any happier playing in League One.
Some tempting job offers came in, most notably Hearts, and Wolves right at the end of the season as they were entering the promotion play-off matches for entry to the Premiership. In the end I stayed true to the ethos of taking each club as far as possible.
Young Striker had a decent showing with 15 goals, whilst his strike partner bagged 21. With a few quality players leaving when the transfer window re-opens (aforementioned strike partner included), I’m waiting to see what the board will allow me to offer in the way of wages and set about rebuilding the squad.

PSNI came agonisingly close to getting into the NI
Prem, losing 1-3 on aggregate in the promotion play off. The presence of the former manager at the home match just wasn’t enough to get them over the line.
